Just wondering what everyone is giving their babies for finger foods? I get so freaked out that my baby girl is going to choke when I give her certain foods. I have had some scares. Just wondering if anyone has any good suggestions on what to give? Thanks!

My daughter is 11 months and eats all sorts of things. I've been giving her whole milk and whole milk products since she was 8 months old, with no adverse affects. She was breastfed upto that point. Formula has so many chemicals that we just went straight to whole milk with no problems. She has never been sick and is a super healthy girl. She eats yogurt bites from gerber, cereal puffs, bananas, strawberries, melon, avocado, bread, chicken, steamed veggies and anything else that isnt too tough on her gums. Anything that is "mooshy" like avocados or bananas are great to start them off on. This way they get used to munching down on those foods and then gradually go from there. Last night I gave her tiny pieces of grilled chicken and she loved it! The more you introduce to her palate the more she will enjoy different foods and most likely be a great eater. Just stay close to her while she eats and make sure to cut things in the smallest size she can grab. Once she gets a hang of it the gag sessions will become less and less. Good Luck! Also, trust your own instinct because no one knows your child more than you. I took advice from my mom and friends who told me about their experiences and went from there. Its good to ask questions, you will gets tons of different responses and not one is better than the other so trust your gutt. I'm sure you are doing great!

I would stay away from whole milk products for a child under 1yrs old. I think that too often we introduce things into our children's diets too early remember their digestive systems are still immature. Just my opinion and most doctors will tell you no cow's milk until at least 1 yrs old.

Hey Sarah

I was and still am to a degree the same way. My son just turned 11 months 2 days ago. I give him fruits/veggies as finger foods. We eat different kind of organic cereal so i gave him some corn crunchems today they are made by health valley i believe or cheerios are also a good idea. I gave him a carrot one day i just softened it and let him go to town. If you are really worried just monitor her closely and if she does well then you can feel more comfortable with introducing more things. I hope that this helps you.

Thank you! I was told that I should stay away from milk products in general until a year old. I think I am going to just stay away from milk products just to be on the safe side. She is nearly a year old anyways so it is not that far away.

You can give under 1's milk products as long as its whole milk and cooked into foods or dairy like yogurts or cheese, but make sure you read the yogurts to make sure they are age suitable like 'litle stars'. Try giving your baby sticks of cheese, any type of fruit or veg cut into holdable chunks or slices, if your worried it is to solid try boiling it.

My baby likes the Gerber biter bisquits, the fruit or veggie puffs, the yogurt bites, cheerios, toast or bread crumbs, the chunks of apple or carrots in the baby jars. She has done little chokes, but nothing major, just keep a good eye on your baby girl when she is eating them. My doctor said they will choke a little at first because they are learning. I hope this helps you!
