My daughter is almost 1 and eats anything I let her. She is on 2% cow's milk and has been growing at an appropriate rate. The only problem is, if I give give her a cup of juice or water or milk with her meal she chugs it instead of her food and screams and wont eat till I give it back. But if I feed her first, then give her a drink she chugs it and spits most of it up as well as some food. This is really becoming a problem but I'm afraid she's at risk for dehydration...any advice?

What I do is Sit Breanna who is almost13 months down in her chair and I let her eat even before I make her a drink. She eats and when i notice her playing with her food I give her a small sippie cup of water I personaly don't give her Juice yet to much suggar. Come to think of it and this is totaly my opinion I think the juice might be suggary and this is what your little one likes Like I was saying tho. I make her eat first then give her a little drink than I look at her and tell her "Mom is going to put it back now I would like you to eat" Now this does not work of course she cries but I know there is nothing wrong with her so I let her cry take her trantrum and after she is done throwing all her food on the ground I will give her a little more food and she normaly eats it now if she takes another tantrum I wash her and put her in the livingroom and continue to tell her that mom is eating and I will not get her till I am done. DON'T GIVE IN!!!!!!!!! by this age your baby knows what will happen in every situation I know it is hard I still have a hard time with it sometimes but when I am tired and hungry I eat no matter what.

She's on 2% because that's what we drink and almost everyone in our family is overweight. Her Dr. knows and is fine with it because her weight and development is fine and she eats so much. And if I give her sips between bites she throws a tantrum until I give it back. And as far as drinking as a snack, she spitd up at least half of whatever I give her...but thanks for the tips, we'll keep working on it!

I give Rowan homogenized milk (3.25%) because yes, they require the fat from the milk. I also only give milk and water, and don't offer juice.

Just out of curiosity, why are you giving your baby 2%? I thought babies needed the fat from whole milk until they were at least two.

Can you offer up milk/juice/water as a snack in between meals? That way she keeps up her fluid intake, and perhaps won't want her beverage as much during meal times?
