I hardly ever feed mine rice cereal.....

He was weaned straight onto squash and sweet potato and baby jars. There doesn't seem to be anything much in rice cereal, aside vit b which is in almost all the foods anyway. Its white so i'd assume its heavily refined as well and any beneficial nutrients in the rice taken out.

If you are breastfeeding it is important to provide 2 servings of cereal, rice or oatmeal, a day to provide the iron needed. If you are however using formula the iron is already in there so you will not have to worry so much about how much iron your child is getting.

I don't use rice cereal anymore other than maybe once a day. And once I finish the box we have (which will be only one or 2 more weeks)...I'm not going to buy anymore. My daughter likes real food a lot better anyways

I do still give my son rice cereal with fruit for breakfast some times we switch to oatmeal. Like someone else said just as long as you make sure your baby gets enough iron. Cereals have a lot of iron, but if your baby gets it in other ways then you don't need the cereal.

If you give too much rice cereal your baby could get constipated. I would only give rice cereal once a day and the other times give baby food and formula or breastmilk.

i never offered rice cereal. what ever happened to cooking an apple when it was needed? or a pear? it takes 2 minutes in the microwave and is healthier than tin food.
my 8mo has toast for breakfast, fruit and half a sandwich for lunch and vegetables with rice or pasta or chicken. as well as as many breastfeeds as he wants.

if she/he is eating 3 meals a day, I only give it to them twice, lunch I did a veggie and a fruit, and no cereal, also they have cereal puffs, she loves them, and it's kindof like the same thing, it's just something she can pick up

Not at all it is not medicaly necessary to even start infants of any age on creal when they begin soilds I feel my son's both did better starting with stage 1 fruits and then veggies I've only ever used cereals to thicken foods. And rice is very constipating oatmeal gives thickness and actually seems to help my 8 month old go regularly could be the fiber...not sure. But that's what works for me hope I was a help

it's my understanding that it is good for babies to have rice cereal or oatmeal 2x a day, especially after 6 months, because thier iron stored drop. i feed my son a jar of baby food with cereal mixed in for breakfast and cereal one other time at lunch or supper.

I don't think it is necesary. Some babies don't even like it. My son started with it and liked it. Than once he got veggies and fruit he would not eat the cereal anymore. So i didnt force it on him. I didnt even offer it to him for a month. Tha one day i tried it again and he loves it. I give him Oatmeal cereal in the morning with breakfast and like every other night he gets some rice cereal with his jar of baby food. Sometimes i don't even give it to him at all. I def. would not worry about it. It's not necessary at all!

I quit rice cereal when we ran out too. My daughter eats baby oatmeal w/fruit now & 2 jars of stage 2 baby food at lunch & again at dinner. Sometimes even an extra jar of veggies for a snack!

Nope rice cereal is not necessary at every meal. In fact you don't need rice every day. You can mix it up with different cereals, fruits or veggies. It is suggested to start solid feeding w/rice cereal because it is bland and least likely to cause an allergic reaction. The most important thing until they are a year old is the formula or breast milk. As long as they are getting the average amount of that, you should be good to go. HTH!
