How many naps, and how long should a toddler have? My son will be 2 next week, and he's been on one nap about 3 hours after he wakes in the morning. And it used to last about 2-3 hours, But lately he's been waking up after only and hour or less, and he's so tired and cranky throughout the day until bedtime. Should I put another short nap in there somewhere before the end of the day?

My son just turned 2 on the 19th and hasn't taken a nap in many months, over 6 months but he usually sleep between 6 9d 7 pm and wakes at 8 am. He is fine in the day and quiet often still doesn't act tired at bedtime.

My son was doing that too. But I moved his nap to after lunch and he sleeps for 2-3 hours. Kids change quickly like that. Lol!!!

My son turned two yesterday. He's on a schedule as follows... We take my fiance to work in the morning at 5:45am we get home about 6:45 my son then takes a nap till about 9:30 wakes up and eats breakfast and plays. then is off for a nap around noon. on the weekends when we dont have to wake up so early he sleeps till about 8:30 and takes a nap around noon. Sometimes he takes a nap around 3. But i think it all depends on how hard your little one plays. one or two, its up to you!!! :)

I agree with the frist person who said that you would know what is best for your child. If giving another nap works and you dont have too much problems getting him to sleep at night then do that. My little girl has been on one sleep for a long time, however she has recienly gone back to two sleeps. We were on holiday so it worked really well. She was waking very early for her so was back in bed about 9am then again in the afternoon. It meant she was not going to bed till later at night but it was ok. Today she has been awake since 4.15am so was back in bed by 7am. It will be intersting to see how the day goes.

My 4 year old boy has also started to have day sleeps again. After a good six months of no sleeps. IT has been great during the holidays.

Good luck.

I would try extending his wake up time in the morning. My daughter, who just turned 2 yesterday, has been taking one nap since she was about 18 months, and she goes down at noon, and sleeps for about 2 1/2 hours. I would try a later nap unless your little guy cannot stay awake after the 3 hours.

My son takes a nap anywhere between 1 to 3 hours long. He usually goes down anytime between 12 and 1 pm. The average nap is 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours long. I reccomend reading the book Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child. It helped me a lot with any issue I had regarding sleeping.

My daughter hasn't taken a nap on a regular basis in MONTHS! She refuses. So, instead we keep her going all day long and we get her to bed around 7:30 and she sleeps until 8:30-9:00 the next morning. She doesn't have much of a routine because things are just so hectic around here. Now that my husband is deploying and we are moving, its going to be impossible to set something up again.

cody tends to have a nap about half 9 for an hour or so then another power nap at about 2 and wakes up in time for the 2:45 school run for the older boys
but some days like today hes only had 1 nap and is fine, i let him decide if hes having a nap or not because he knows if hes tired

My son was 2 last Saturday and a very early riser, but he regularly take a 1 1/2 hour nap each day around lunch time and is down again by 7:30 each night. Each child is different but after a little time, you'll work out what is best for you both. Best of luck.

I give Aubrey one nap a day. She is at daycare M - F, so the weekends I keep her naptime the same (really try too) but I only let her sleep for a max of two hours because we struggle like crazy at night to get her down. Night time for her anywhere from 9:30pm - 11 pm. Good Luck.

My daughter used to wake up at 8 in the morning and take a 2-3 hour nap at 11. Now she wakes up around the same time but I can't give her a nap until 1 or 2. still a 2 hour nap but she doesn't always sleep either and she is a pain if she doesn't take her nap

You will know exactly what will be perfect for him.
Have a bit of an experiment around with different naps times and durations. Maybe give him two hour naps spaced evenly?
My Daughter is two next week and she has an hour (to an hour and a half) nap in the middle of the day, and that gets her through til bedtime.
But all children are different, you will find exactly what works you both :)
