We started my son crying to sleep at 9 months. That's all that works for him. But he normally cries for about 5 minutes before he's out for the night.

People have been letting their babies cry it out for years. I don't buy the whole psychological problems thing. Especially since your baby can't even remember it! I actually want to laugh about that statement.

As for your chilld, try a bigger feeding at bed time maybe? My son used to sleep best with soft music on. Now he sleeps with a small fan in his room and he sleeps all night with the soothing white noise. Our doctor told us not to pick him up or rock him when he wakes at night, to just go into the room and rub his back and shush him and comfort him from his crib. It saved us. He went through seperation anxiety around 8 months of age. And I have to say, rocking was our biggest mistake. If you are rocking your baby to sleep, she will wake up and not know where she is and freak out because mommy isn't there anymore. She needs to be awake when you put her down, perhaps drowsy but awake, and if you don't want to hear her cry, try soothing her in her crib. Good luck! :)

I wouldn't let her cry if she has a medical condition. I followed the advice of my dr. and the book. The Sears book is really good too.

She does not cry going to sleep just wont sleep all night, wakes up 4 times. She goes to bed at 8:30, wakes up at 12, 2, 3, 5 and then again at 6am the 6am is not bad but then she falls back to sleep at 7am. I will not let her cry to sleep because she has a heart murmur, i dont like to see her upset for long, it bothers me, to where i think something will go wrong with her heart.

Also, it only took two nights of crying for 20 minutes at a time and my LO sleeps all night now. I watched him on the monitor the entire time to ensure he was ok.

My mom did cry it out with me and my brother and we are both grown professional adults with kids, spouses and own our own homes. We do not have any problems and are well adjusted.

dr sears "the baby sleep book" is really good. it gives many different suggestions to getting bub to sleep.

the cry it out method has been proven to cause psycological problems later in life.

It's a sore subject, but we did "cry it out." Read "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" and that worked for use at 5 months. He now sleeps from 6 pm to 6 am.
