My daughter is 22 months and only weighs 17 lbs. and is 30 in. tall. She is still in a rear-facing convertible car seat because my pediatrician said I am not allowed to turn her around to face forward until she is 20 lbs. But my pediatrician is not worried, she said as long as she continues on her own growth curve (which is substantially below the lowest curve in the lower 5th percentile) and she doesn't lose weight, then she will be fine. She is hitting all of her developmental milestones early and has even been potty-trained since she was 19 months. And just like your son, she eats all day long and doesn't stop moving from the time she wakes up until she goes to bed at night! So I wouldn't worry, he sounds just fine to me :)

My son sounds just like your little man! He is almost 2 and he only weighs 22 lbs and has been at that weight for a very long time! 18 month pants fall right off of him, but are to short in length, so he is tall and skinny. My ped. has never said anything about his weight, so i think your little man is just fine!

My son is almost two and almost 3 feet tall and weighs 38lbs.... but he doesnt look chubby!! Completly solid.... and doesnt stop for a second. he has always been big though... he was outgrown the infant car seat by 2 months

Hey there, he is doing fine, both my kids at that age were little, my daughter who is 23 months is 22Ib and also on the go and can eat alot! But she's really petite, my son who is now 6 is 39.6Ib and is considered tiny for his age but he is doing great also, so try not to worry, all kids are different :)

I wouldn't be too concerned.. My niece is 8 years old and she weighs 38 pounds.. She has always been small, but developmentally she is fine.. On the other hand my nephew is 8 years old and weighs almost 70 pounds.. Just shows that all kids grow differently.. As long as he gains, even if it is gradual, I wouldn't be overly concerned.. Were you or your husband small as a child?

Trust you doctor! Hes perfectly healthy, once he doesnt have energy and doesnt eat much then worry, every child is different...and your doctor will know when he is at an unsafe weight.

I wouldn't worry if your dr is not. My son will be 2 in July and he is around 31lb. He has been a big boy all his life though. As long as your child is eating and drinking, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

its good to hear i am not alone in this problem my son is now 22 and a half months and weighs 19.6 lb he has massive size seven feet and is 33 inch tall. no-one seems to worry only me i wish someone could take the worry away. other than weight i think he is fine he is using around thirty odd words but not together unless prompted to do so , he understands everything you tell him and follows a range of instruction. not potty trained yet but i think he may not be ready. let me know if you are in same boat as it drives me crazy

My son is 22mo old too. Last time I checked him, he was 23lbs. He was small at birth as well, 6lbs 11oz. He is really tall though, he's almost 3 ft tall! I have asked my pediatrition about it and he didn't say much. I pushed the subject and he said that since his motor and development skills are at the "normal" stage not too worry. Plus, I've always been thin too, and so is my mom, and his father was in great shape too. The doc said that it is most likey because of the "family genes".

I wouldn't worry if you are small or your husband is small as well. Both of my daughters are not even on the chart for weight. My oldest just turned 3 and she is only 23lbs 4.5oz and my other one will be 2 in a month and she was only 20lbs 1oz the other day. As long as they are eating they are fine, it could just be a warp speed metabolism!

i wouldn't be too worried hun. he sounds absolutely fine. my little man is soon to be two and weighs just over 25lbs although he was born 15 weeks early. his consultant seems to think that weight for his age is fine so i wouldn't worry.

My daughter is 33 lbs, but has always been big- both in weight & height. She doesn't look chunky, she just looks older than she is. Most people think she's turning 3, not 2. She towers above most of the other toddlers her age & is always on the go.

Wow, sounds like my son! He just hit 23lbs at 22-months. Trust me, I celebrated a few months ago when he hit 20lbs. Don't worry, he sounds happy, healthy and FULL of energy. Enjoy, who knows maybe 20 yrs from now he'll win the Olympic gold for marathon running :-)

Cailyn is 23 months and weighs 18 lbs. The doctor says she is fine its heredity. He said if I was small she would also be small. He also has fun it and tells new moms in his office that she is only 10 months old and look at how smart she is. Its really funny to see their faces when she walks up to them and says HI

My second daughter who is now 10 was small like your son at age 2. She was, like your son, lively and alert, and her intellectual development was far above the norm, so I was not really concerned, but our doctor sent us to a growth specialist who had us put her on a high calorie diet. Shortly thereafter, I happened upon an article on something called "Constitutionally Delayed Growth." My daughter fit the characteristics almost exactly. Because another feature of this normal growth variant is delayed onset of puberty, it's good to know as we are approaching the age of puberty what to expect. There is a very good article at eMedicine http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/91...

My daughter is 22 months and last I weighed her she was at 23lbs, I laugh to think they say a child should triple their birth weight by 1! She has always been small and still I find that 18month pants are too big on her. I was always very skinny as a child but marriage, birthcontrol, and having a baby has changed all of that so I will encourage my daughter to enjoy being tiny while she can :P
