How many words can your 16 months old child speak? Mine is a little slow in this matter, I guess because he has two languages to learn at the same time.

My daughter is also bilingual (Spanish/English). My son is now 6 and also grew up bilingual, as did I and the rest of my 10 siblings. Sometimes it's easier for them to just say a word in just one language, but they will understand both. They even know who to speak just English or just Spanish to. You might want to try to teach your little one some sign language if they are still a little behind on speaking. My daughter still does the sign to things while she says them, like "eat" and "milk". She is speaking in sentences now, so I don't know how many words she says.

My 16 month old daughter says about 15 words and immitates the number of syllables and intonation on lots of other words. She is just starting to walk, she is more interested in drawing or reading her books than walking. I think 5-10 words is normal for 18 month olds. I know a few people with bi-lingual kids and it does take them a little longer to start talking than children hearing only one language so I wouldn't worry about your little one.

My son says about 35-40 words. I've heard that generally kids are more ahead in physical activity or verbal, and my son didn't start walking until 13 1/2 months, so I think he's just a verbal little guy. But he's not learning two languages, which is awesome! If you're concerned at all, you can talk to your pediatrician, and they would probably know about being bilingual and its effects on language acquisition. :)

My son only says about 4 real words. He jibber jabbers, but not a lot is real. I have heard boys are usually slower to develop than girls as far as talking goes!

My son is also learning two languages. He hasn't started saything any words yet, but clearly understands almost anything you tell him. He gets a little more in English I think because I'm with him most and that's what I speak.

Two languages?! That's great! My son has his favorite words: daddy, yuck, sock, and football. Your baby is learning 2 languages...not just one, so it's going to take a little longer. No need to worry :)

My daughter is ahead of the curve with her speech - 31 words to date, and two word sentences - a "normal" child will have roughly 50 words by their 2nd birthday, with most of those words being used for the first time between 18-24 months.

Wow two languages!! That's awesome!! Lilly can say alot... mama, daddy, yucky, juice, walk, cookie, etc.!! Boys are slower than girls also in that department! My son was for sure! He'll talk soon enough don't worry!! He's is normal.
