Baby food in a jar -v- homemade

Hi, my name is Liane and this is my first time on here since signing up. My son is Christopher and he is a bit over 5 months old, born on 25 July. He eats very well; he has four bottles a day and has food with his two middle bottle feeds. My son will eat the food from a jar with no problems at all, but clamps his mouth shut if I try to give him something I have made. I've tried different fruits and veges, different combinations, different consistencies, sweetening veges with the baby apple juice but he keeps refusing everything unless it is from a jar. My question is: has anyone else had problems with their baby eating food that you've made yourself? If so, how have you been able to get your baby to eat your food instead of the jar food?

same thing put your homemade in the jar and make it as smooth a possible or to what ever consistancy the jar food hes having. some babies just dont like home cooked food full stop sometimes the smellier the better they like it.

i've only recently tried feeding my daughter food. She has tried sweet potatoes and bananas, both of which are homemade. She has taken to them ok, but she hasn't tried jar food at all, so I am not sure if she would stop taking my food. Are you just mashing the food or pureeing it? Are you feeding it him warm?

i would try mixing the food with his milk, it makes it smoother and also has a familiar taste, this is what i do with my son and he's ok at the moment. he's 25 weeks, also when i started weanming him i just used baby rice mixed with milk and gradually introduced vegetables to it, then took away the rice after about 3 weeks, hope this helps

I had this problem with my 6month old daughter and all i done was mix a bit of homemade food into the jarred food and slowly i would put more homemade food then jar food in and she'll eat anything now!!!

Good luck!!

Hi Liane,

I might not be of much help because my little boy who is 6 months on the 17th has only ever had homemade food and hasnt rejected anything.

But have you tried saving the jars and putting homemade food into them when he isnt looking?

Try to trick the little monkey!

Let me know how you go, Good luck!
