My daughter is 8 montsh old and about 2 weeks ago we started giving her lightly toasted bread, crackers, pasta, ect. She LOVES eating it, but as soon as it is time for her to swallow it, it seems like she doesn't know how to swallow it and ends up puking everything back up. Its very frustrating for both of us. Now when she see's us eating grains she wants them so bad but I am too afraid of giving them to her... what should I do?

When I started feeding my son who is also 8 months, he had the same problem...not just with grains. I would give my son small amounts followed by a drink of water from a sippy cup. It helped and calmed his 'gag' reflex.

If she is choking on it and throwing up while trying to swallow she may just not be ready for the texture yet or it might just be too dry. I'd stick to stage two foods for a little longer. My son eyes everything we eat (and actually tries to steal stuff off my plate!) but is still not ready for a lot of it because we started solids pretty late. When I give him bits of soft bread I have learned I have to give him one small bite then something watery like applesauce or a drink. If I give him several bites of bread in a row it gets all mushed and stuck in the top of his mouth and eventually he gags on it. He looooooves the gerber puffs too (walmart has different flavored generic organic ones really cheap). It's a total mess, but he also does a bit better with bread if I dribble some juice on it. Makes it go down easier. I have not tried grown up crackers or anything super dry like that, he just doesn't seem . We have tried the gerber teething biscuits. They are hard but just dissolve in mushy messyness not chunks. He likes Baby Mum Mum's too. They are little biscuits with a dissolving texture more like the puffs.

first of all thanks for writing back!
It is only grains she is having trouble keeping down, I haven't tried the Gerger puffs before..I actually haven't heard of them before..? LOL But I am going to see if I can find any when I go out today. She had no problems at all with baby cereals, at first anyway...now she just doesn't want them... I have cooked her pasta and made it really mushy before but she still brought it up. However, last night we made her pastina and (even though she didn't want it) she ate a bit and didn't puke it up...
thansk for your advide, it is greatly appreciated :)

Is it only the grains she is having a hard time keeping down? have you tried the gerber puffs that disolve in their mouth? If they make her sick I would have her tested for an allergy, did she have trouble with single grain cereals at all (rice cereal or baby oatmeal) have you tried cookin the pasta extra mushy first and mashing it and feeding it to her, or using whole grain pasta? just a few ideas, good luck!
