Breast to Formula

Sam - posted on 10/21/2008 ( 3 moms have responded )

I've resently changed feeding my 4month old son from breast to formuls but i'm a little confused with which is the right way to make the bottles up.......with my first son I made all the bottles up in the morning and left them in the fridge for as and when

I needed them....I have been advised several different ways but unsure which one to follow....can anyone shed some light on what 'the norm is nowadays!!

I make my bottles up before I go to bed. (which is really late) Depending on my son's mood is if he finishes a whole bottle or not. For my oldest, he would drink room temp bottles so I would make every bottle when he was just about to drink it. But for my youngest he was breastfed for 6 months and now formula fed and he won't drink room temp bottles. I hope that you find a way that your comfortable with.

I have 3 boys and i think i finally got it right on the 3rd one, what i used to do was make up all the bottles that i needed for the day in the morning and then put them in the fridge, but i used to waste milk if the baby didnt want them so with my third child i used to make up all the bottles that i needed but just with the water and then add the formula when it was needed so if there was left over bottles then i would just throw away the water and not waste the formula.hope this helps.

From what I've heard, if you make up a bottle but don't feed it to your baby right away, you can leave it in the fridge for up to 24 hours. I personally make them as I go, but I think it's up to you....just my personal opinion.
