Hey everyone! I am a 1st time mother to a wonderful baby boy who is 7 months and 1week old! He is extreamly strong and loves jump when you stand him up, but he is still not crawling.. He will roll everywhere or scoot himself backwards but he won't crawl.. He will either flip over on his back everytime I put him on his tummy or he will play for a min and then start screaming.. Does anyone else have this problem or can give me some tips? Thanks so much!

My baby is almost 8 months and does EXACTLY the same! My husband and I hold her constantly though, she doesn't like being on her tummy, so that might be part of the "delay," although I don't think it's a big deal. They'll get there when they want something bad enough that more than an arm's reach away!

Hi Candice! My baby also, 7months, she is not crawling either. She isn't doing any of that! She will scootch her legs up and then move backwards about 2 inches and that is that!! She doesn't seem the least bit interested in crawling. She sits up like a champ tho. She started sitting up by herself at about 5-5.5months and she enjoys that. I am sure your baby boy will either start crawling any day now, or he may just skip it all together! I just read on one of the many milestone websites i visit, that its perfectly fine if your baby doesn't crawl. My Peditrician also told me its a 6-12 month milestone, esp since babies have been put to bed on there backs. So who knows!!

My little guy is 7th months 2 weeks.  He isn't crawling either but i do have some tips. I am a developmental therapist and it is normal that our little ones are not crawling. One thing you can do is when you put him down on his tummy place his feet on your hands like a back board. YOu want him to push off your hands. Put a toy he likes in front of him but out of reach.   It is good that he is scooting backwards that is the start so he is in the right direction.

Hi! Mine just turned 7 months yesterday. He is crawling, sitting up, pulling himself up & moving along the couch.

But every child is different! He is the youngest of 5. Everyone of my children started at different ages. My oldest son never really crawled, just scooted around. Don't worry, he will when he wants to. He's getting from point A to point B, that's all that matters to him...lol.

I think the average age for crawling is around 8, 9 mos and anyway it is perfectly normal for some kids to never even learn to crawl! They might just scooch on their butts or go directly to pulling up on furniture and walking and learning to crawl only later. You really don't have a problem to solve - no worries!

My daughter started crawling the day before New Years Eve. Up until then she pretty but scooted and rocked on her knees. To get her to crawl I pretty but gave her tummy time alot and started sitting on the floor with her. Sitting far away making her want to come get me...and oddly she developed a facination with Sunflower Seed bags (maybe because its red) and started moving towards that...and sure enough little mama was OFF! Now she chases us around the house room to room. I can't keep her still ! She is now pulling herself up and pulling everything down!

I Have twins, and one can get from one end of the room to the other in seconds with his own army crawl, where my other one gets on his tummy and screams bloody murder, so i guess it is just up to each child. My doc says that some kids never crawl, and will just get up and walk someday!

My daughter hated it for a while but we just kept sticking her on her belly. Eventually she started scooting across the floor and know she is full blown crawling. It's annoying and fraustrating to deal with but it will happen. Just encourage him..get on the floor with him and play :)

Hi! My son is the same age and started crawling on Saturday. It's a mixture of crawling on his knees and an army crawl. I found to encourage him along I would jingle my car keys and drop them a few metres away from him. They always want what they can't have. hehe Good luck, make the most of the freedom while he's not crawling! :)

He will start anytime.  Every child develops differently.  Mine started a couple weeks ago.  But I do know of a one that hadn't started crawling yet, just pulling himself along & he turns 1 on the 21st.  I would just try to keep encouraging him playing time.  Try putting toys a little out of his reach so he has to work to get them, we started doing that & my daughter tried harder.  Wish you luck, but don't get frustrated he will crawl.

I was so happy to read everyone's messages. I have a 7 month old and although he can sit by himself, he just has no interest in crawling, in fact, he hates even being on his stomach. I was starting to worry but it seems that this is pretty normal!

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it.  My son is a week older than your son and he just started crawling yesterday.  How long has he been scooting himself backwards?  Caleb did that for about 2 to 3 weeks, and then he started rocking back and forth on all fours and than before you knew it he was creeping and now he's crawling.  Don't worry his time will come!!  Just remember the sooner he gets mobile the more stuff he'll be into.  ;)

my son marcus is the same age and also has not figured out crawling. Marcus has not even started scooting backwards and only rolls over when he has to. I am sure that they both will figure it out on their own time.

My son actually started crawling on Christmas Day.. He was 6months 2 weeks. When we took him the Dr. just a week before we had asked her when to expect him to crawl. She said that some babies don't even crawl.. or will wait to much later. Our son loved to stand holding onto things so she said he may skip the crawling. But we received a great surprise on Christmas. About two weeks ago he started pulling himself up on everything and likes to take 1 or 2 steps around the things he is holding onto. I will tell you I think the thing that made him start crawling on Christmas was that there was something he wanted out of his reach. But it's def. not something that you should feel is wrong with him.

Hey! My daughter is 7months and 1 week too!! She's rolling everywhere, she spins herself around and rolls to her toys from the side, she is sitting alone very well now, but last week she wouldn't sit for long before she'd fall over!!

I'm so glad that I have read all of these posts. My son will be 7 months on Sunday, and has made no attempt at crawling. He enjoys tummy time for a bit, but then cries or rolls over to his back. I hope to see some new milestones soon. At least his two teeth have come in :)

My daughter is in the same boat!! She was 7 months on the 5th, and she just rolls and rolls to get where ever she wants to go. She loves jumping when I stand her up. I did notice that when I hold her by her hands to stand up she's a pretty good stander, and she even takes a couple little steps on her own (without me guiding her). We'll see... I'm pretty patient with the whole crawling thing (I don't want my baby to grow up... LOL)!!!

OMG you are describing my son! People tell me he is going to skip crawling and go straight to walking. UGH i hope not LOL I keep feeling like he should be crawling by now but my doc isn't concerned. Every kids develops at their own pace. I guess all we can do is enjoy this time and wait for the next milestone

Hello

My son is 7months and 1 week too and he started crawling about 3 weeks ago.  My mom-in-law told me my hubby never crawled.  He just rolled everywhere, skipped the crawl stage and started walking.  My DS didn't like tummy time either until I put a boppy pillow underneath him.

My 2 year old skipped crawling pretty much all together. My now 7 month old is doing the scooting thing too, not crawling or even sitting himself up yet. Don't fret, it's perfectly normal!!!

I have the same problem...but not to worry, not every baby crawls.  Vanessa is 7 months and one week too, she loves to stand and jump, so I hold her waist and encourage her to walk instead.  I myself skipped crawling as a baby and walked at 9 months

I am sure the doctor has told you that it will come with time. I hate when they tell me that, but it is true. My daughter is now 21/2 but at your sons age was the same way. She managed to get around but actually didn't crawl until your 1 year birthday. She crawled for two monthes and one day stood up, started walking and now we can't slow her down.
