My little Sophia is 7 months and 1 week. I want to introduce her to a sippy cup. Any thoughts on how much water I should give her and is there a juice made for infants....if not do I dilute it and what type of juices should she drink?

Lost in Miami,

Shauna

I have a 2 year old and she started drinking out of a sippy cup at 4 months old. I used a brand called Nubby the tip is soft like a bottle and it seems to help them transition better. You can get it at Wal-Mart for about $2.75. Gerber is a great juice to start out with. As she gets older  you can switch to 100% juices like juicy juice. I dilute my daughters juice. 75% water 25% juice. I have had many doctors and nurses tell me to do that. I believe that they're not suposse to have more than 2 onces of juice a day. As they get older though it changes.

Hope this helps

Hey Shauna! There's all kinds of great juices out there! Check out Gerber in the baby section. They have many different types of regular and organic juices. My pediatrician said to absolutely NOT dilute with water. I did not ask her why... I also give the nursery water and bottled water sometimes if I'm out and about and don't have any juice. Caysen drinks best rom the Take-N-Toss brand. I spent about $30.00 on sippy cups trying to find one he'll take easily and it's the $2.88/7 cups that he likes the best! A lot of times you just have to do what feels right to you. Even though the doc said not to dilute the juice, I sill do just a little...

We have a Thermos brand sippy cup. The body of it is stainless steel, with a pink rubber-ish lid and purple handles and spout. It works great and it's dishwasher safe. My little girl Melody likes to chew on the spout - she has a few teeth and it doesn't even leave a mark.  It's a pretty durable cup. We got it at the drugstore here in Canada, but a store like Wal-Mart might carry it too.

Its water you can by especially for babies that have floride in it.  I'll give it a try though.  Thank you so much for your help.  Oh one more question....any brand of sippy cup that works best for you???  Thank you again

Sorry I can't answer that question because I don't know what nursery water is!

My daughter is the same age and she is using a sippy cup. At first I gave her only water and let her drink until she didn't want any more (it was probably an ounce or less at a time that she actually drank). I was told not to use water straight from the tap. It's safer to use water that has been boiled then cooled to room temp for baby to drink.

The two juices the doc recommends are organic apple or white grape juice. And it's best to dilute them at first. They help ease constipation too.

Hope that helps!
