I am having some problems getting Jake to nap during the day. He is such a good night sleeper, he goes down at 7pm and usually wakes up around 6am, eats and then goes back down until 8 am. but during the day he only naps for an hour at a time. Once around 10am and then again around 1 or 2pm. Does anybody have any suggestions to get him to sleep longer. Our doctor said that its because he sleeps so long at night but I was just wondering if you all have any suggestions or have encountered this.

I think babies sleep as long as they need to. I wouldn't worry about it. My daughter makes up a new nap schedule every day!

I would love to know how you got him to sleep so good at night!!! with that much night sleep those naps seem fine.

Sounds normal- I would count your blessings he sleeps so much at night! Mine lately is getting up 3-4 times and he used to sleep better!

My little girl is the same, She sleeps through 7 till 7 at night without a feed but isn't consistant with her day sleeps. I'm quite happy with it that way but if you'd like him to get some more sleep during the day have you tried putting dark sheets up on his windows? They are also great for getting them to sleep in a little bit in the morning!!

Wow...I think he's sleeping well. My little June bug, goes to sleep at 10 pm to wake up at 8am...she only takes 2 naps (1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon...if I'm lucky) Enjoy this time before the teeth come out!

Wow I thought I was doing something wrong... My little guy sleeps great at night waking up once for a feeding.. but maybe two, 1 hour naps in the day only if I let him feed while napping.. if I put him in the crib once he's asleep 10 mins then he's awake..

my son doesnt really sleep during the day much..he does sleep all night, walking up once to eat and then right back to sleep, and sometimes he sleeps right through..but the only time he really sleeps during the day is if we go out, he will sleep in the stroller or carseat. and if he does sleep during the day its about 15 mins-20mins tops and only about 2 or 3 times a day..but its rare..lol

Thank you all for all of your help. It is great to know that there are other moms experiencing the same things and that it is "normal". It is so great to be able to talk to other moms of a 6 month old.

My son was doing the same thing up until about a month ago. He just started wanting to go down in his crib and nap. I put him in and he rolls over and goes to sleep for about 1-2 hours in the morning and afternoon. He established his own nap schedule so your little one might too. Good Luck!

oh mine has the EXACT schedule!! I was told that anywhere from 14-15hrs of sleep a day is what she needs, so not to worry too much about short naps, as long as she's gettin it all in a day!

I think that sounds normal to me. If he's sleeping that much at night, he might not need bigger naps during the day. My son wakes once at night still and usually naps 2 times for 1-2 hours.

My LO is the same way. An hour would actually be good for her...usually she's about 30 minutes, except her 1st morning nap usually is around an hour. Sometimes, she'll go an hour in the middle of the day. I try to be consistent with her routine, being fed and waking up at the same time. But you just never know. I've read to go in there and try to coax them back to sleep, either patting their back or with a pacifier, but I've never had any luck. When she wakes up, she's awake!! I'm still waiting for the 2 long naps a day thing to start...no luck here either!
