Just had my 37 week check-up and I'm measuring 41 weeks. I'm sure it's due to a big baby but the way it's been jumping up since 34 weeks is astounding (Measuring dead-on all previous weeks and then @34, 36, @36, 39 and now @37, 41 weeks). This is my third. My first was induced at 39 weeks and was 8lbs, 7oz. My second was a spontaneous birth at 41 weeks, 1 day and he was 10lbs, 9oz. Since I had no problems delivering him, I'm not too worried unless this baby's much bigger. So a little nervous and wondering if I should induce at due date or not (nervous about that too with very painful memories from my first). Of course the baby could be long and not too "fat." Sure feels long in there! :) Oh, and I know not to go by the doc's estimate, as my second was estimated by u/s to be 7.5 lbs, give or take a pound - obviously way off!!!

Quoting Vicky:

I had a growth scan today and Im 37 weeks tomorrow and baby is measuring over 40 weeks! and estimated to be about 8lbs already!! but the Doctor didn't seem bothered about it! which confussed me because I don't know why they bothered having a scan if they weren't going to do anything about it anyway! Im so worried he is going be massive because im quite small lol!

Well, Vicky, from experience the scan can be completely off. My doc says it has an error of a pound either way. Mine was way off from that - over 3 lbs off.  I think it's difficult to tell because they measure the baby but that doesn't really tell you how the fat sits on the baby. They can measure the head though. And just because you physically are small doesn't mean your hips/pelvic area can't accomodate a large baby. It is funny they did a scan but maybe they did it to rule out something else that would have you measuring big? Try to stay calm about it since you really don't know how big your baby is and trust that your body can deliver what it's creating!
