My 6 1/2 month old has a sever ear infection that caused a rupture in his ear drum... I feel like there is nothing i can do to comfort him and calm him down when he gets going. i have the antibiotic and have also been alternating motrin and ibuprofen. i just feel so helpless!

I have been there!!! Olive oil or mineral oil work to alleviate the pressure in the ear drum. Also try propping him up so that he is not sleeping flat especially after he eats. I have put my little guy in the car seat and it works great! Hope this helps.

Sorry Mary but it's not safe to use Motrin and Ibuprofen together, Motrin is just a brand of Ibuprofen. If you use them together you're double dosing.

my son's eardrum ruptured once. i'd try putting warm compresses on his ear. the heat usually makes it feel better. if he doesn't let u use hot wash cloth on it, then use a heating pad and put on your shoulder and lay his ear on it holding him. you can use motrin and ibuprofin together also for stronger relief. just not all the time though. i'd say maybe only in the morning as the first dose for the day. good luck!

First of all motrin and Ibuprofen are the same thing and shouldb't be given no more than 6-8 hourly or 3 times a day. You can use acetominophen otherwise known as tylenol to alternate with Ibuprophen. Other than the antibiotic and pain relief all you can do is try to comfort him with lots of cuddles and feeds.

Does the dr have any suggestions? We raised one side of my son's crib when he has an ear infection (stacked books) That way he wasn't laying flat. If it continues, you need to call the dr and see if they want to see him again.

Oh, that must be awful for you, Olivia. I have no experience with this, but I'm sure knowing that you're there is a great comfort to your little one. Maybe someone who's been through this will have better advice. Hang in there.
