I left it on the floor with the toys so that my son would get used to it being around, and started offering it to him after pretending to have a drink from it first.

It probably depends on the cup like Brenda said. My daughter started at 4 mos with the Nuby, which I don't like now b/c junk gets stuck in the nipple. It's great for transitioning though! The Munchkin does the same kind of thing b/c the nipples are both similar to bottles. The munchkin is better about stuff not gettin stuck in the nipple. We slowly transitioned to playtex with handles b/c the spout is harder but still rubbery. She was just biting on the munchkins and nuby's to get the juice out instead of sucking. We also tried the tommee tippee at babies r us. I like it b/c it has handles and the spout cover! Now we're on the coolster sippy by playtex. She also drinks out of the munchkin with a straw and the take n toss with a straw and regular ones too! I know that sounds like a lot, but you start at the bottom of the "sippy scale" and work your way up! Persistence is the key, just keep trying and she will eventually get the hang of it!
Oh and... my daughter will NOT drink formula out of a cup, only juice or water! She's a goober! If I put milk or formula in her sippy she throws it at me! stinker!
Good Luck! =)

I had to try many differant cups. She ended up liking the Munchkin brand ones. They have a spout that is similar in texture to her bottle nipples. I have been offering her a sippy cup for about two months now and she just finally getting the hang of it. I guess it just takes a lot of practice!
