my little girl is on the small side of the curve too... she's 9 1/2 months & is 15lbs 5oz (but she's really tall though 30 1/2in.) my doctor told me not to worry when I asked at her 9month check-up

Yes, be worried. Its not that your child may be unhealthy, but many doctors think they should bee closer to 20 pounds...some will not do a thorough check up and just be looking at weight. I have twins and one has always been small inspite of eating very well. When we finally got medicaid, I took them to a new doctor because we had moved and had lost our health insurance prior...due to financial strain. They had never been considered unhealthy prior. The pediatrician was rude, uninformative, not thorough and would not listen to me properly...he kept repeating their eating habits wrong that he had asked me several.times. He suggested they go to a childrens hospital for evaluation...ok? He said he would do a referral...welll two days later I got a call on a Friday and when I called back, they couldn't find.pur.name.in the system. Over the weekend, they could.not find our name in the system. By Monday, I spoke to.hospital and informed them that I was getting a second opinion tuesday morning(which I did), mind you the hospital was over an hour drive and my children have never been sick. By Friday..CPS came and even had cops come and threaten me!!! Please be careful what doctors you go to! The first pediatrician called CPS on me because I.got a second opinion which in fact...was a very thorough examination and child was found healthy. Now this.is.going to.be a long process of proving innocence and being humiliated because they will.talk to neighbors! Please please be careful who you take your children to.

Casey:
I wouldn't worry about it. My 9 month old weighed 14.2 pounds at his last appointment and was 27 inches long. The DR of course gave me a hard time about it. I have a 9 year old and to tell you the truth, his baby brother is growing at the exact same rate that he did. I think Walter has put on some weight hear lately, in the past couple of weeks, he seems to feel heavier and more solid when I pick him up. We changed him from Formula to Whole Milk and he is packing on the pounds. Doctors know a lot, but remember your the mom and your instincts mean something as well. I'm not saying not to listen to your DR but remember you know your child better than any DR ever will.

My son is almost 10mos too and also weighs 15lbs. He is 60th percentile for height and 0 percentile in weight but they are not concerned b/c he is growing and gaining every visit. He just happens to be a little toothpick!! We just have different babies!!

At his 9 month check up my son was 17.8 lbs and 28 inches long for his weight he's only in the 8th percentile. I'm not worried about it though because he is always eating. He is never still though!

My daughter just hit 10mo on the 20th and they had told me she was under weight and malnourished we were told to admit our selves to the er and have her examed they had us there for 3 days , my daughter eats a lot and has a lot of energy if she was malnourished she wouldn't be playing with her siblings , just be careful with who you play with I have so many questions and have been complying with the hospitals request but I'm tired of their looks as if my child isn't taken care of , she's tiny for her age yes but she is a happy baby and well taken care of I think it's time for a new doctor

my baby girl born june 2 was 15 lbs at her 9 month but she's been small since birth and her dr just calls her petite like me, she's hitting all her milestones and can eat more than her 4 yr old brother but she's just small and for girls i think thats ok!

i wouldn't worry either. we all come in different shapes and sizes. the dr's will only worry if there's no continual growth each visit in both height and weight. my lil boy has always been on the big side for weight. he was 3 wks early and still weighed 8 lbs 11.5 oz and was 20.5 inches long. he is 10 months old and weighs 27 lbs and he is strictly breast fed with solids now of course. he doesn't eat a lot either. he's about 75th percentile for height and has been always 97th for weight lol. enjoy your baby and don't sweat the small stuff. she'll be grown before u know it! :) take care!

All babies are different. My dr asked me when i brought my daughter in for her 9 month checkup if she was eating solid food yet. she was 29 inches and 16 pounds. 90th %ile for length and 10th for weight. i am not concerned cause her daddy is 6'2" and 180lbs. tall and skinny. also she is a bundle of energy and i am constantly chasing her. no worries. as long as she is eating and gaining at least some weight every dr visit then no worries. also those charts are based on formula fed babies which are statistically biggger that breastfed babies. FYI

My son is almost 10 months and he only weighs 14lbs. 14 ozs. my pediatrician is not worried he says Magnus is just going to be a bean pole really long legs and arms and itty bitty waist. He says as long as there is consistant growth every month then they are o.k.

No, I don't think so.. If she doesn't seem super skinny, just petite I'm sure she is fine.. My daughter at her 6month was only 15lbs.. I'm not sure what she weighs but I don't think it's much more... Some girls are just petite, just small cute little girls!

You should go see your doctor. My niece is 7months old and she's tiny for her age and weighs 16 lbs. My son is 10 months old and weighs close to 27 lbs which is considered normal. If you're breast feeding, perhaps you're not producing enough milk and should try to also give her formula. But you should really talk to you doctor.

Hi ya, my daughter is 10mths too and she weighs 18lbs so only 4lbs more. Its the same as adults everyones different and it also depends on how much they move around and how much sleep they have etc. As long as shes eating fine and not losing weight then I wouldnt worry at all. x

I wouldnt worry. If she health and you feed her the right stuff I would not worry. My daughter is like that at 10 months probably only that heavy right now at 2 1/2yrs she weights 26 pounds and my son who is 10 months is 22 pounds......

sounds like you all have great doctors. My son is 16lbs at 9months and my doctor was very concerned. She wanted to do blood tests, x-rays, the whole nine yards. He has dipped on the growth chart percentage wise, but he's still happy and healthy. My husband and I are both taller and thin so I decided against the blood tests and x-rays, thinking that if there was something really wrong with him, I would see other symptoms besides just being small. Follow your mommy instincts - you'll know if something isn't right with your child.

I wouldnt worry too much, my daughter was about 16 lbs at that age, and my son who will be 10 months on the 1st is 26 lbs! I think every baby is different and as long as she is hitting her milestones and doesnt seem hungry after you feed her then I am sure she is just a petite girl and everything is just fine!

In my experience, if the weight is even a slight concern, your pedi will mention it and let you know what a plan of action is. Some kids are just lower percentile; as long as they are growing on that curve, its usually not an issue. Good luck!

I think that's ok, my daughter didn't gain any weight at all. She was 16lbs 8oz on her 6th and 9th month check up. She's quite a handful and more active now that's why maybe she didn't gain any weight :) As long as she gets taller I wouldn't worry about it.

If she's following her growth curve I wouldn't be cincerned. My son was 14 lbs 8 oz at his 9 month check up but he is not following his growth curve so his dr is concerned.

I don't think so either. My little guy is 9 and a half months and is only 16 lbs and 26 inches long. Dr. said he is keeping up with HIS rate of growth so everything is fine and he is meeting all of his milestones. He is only the 5th percentile for weight and height. Every child is different and as long as she is meeting her milestones, and keeping her rate of growth I would say she's doing great!!!

my son is now 9 months and he weighs 24lbs and hes very tall.. the doctor said hes around the 16 month average for his height and weight, which is good, hes just a tall boy already. Not to be worried, all babies are the different, enjoy your kids when their light, cause carrying them around when their 25lbs gets heavy fast hehe

As long as your doctor is OK with her growth, I wouldn't worry.
My son is almost 10 months and at 18pds/26 inches. At 6 months he was on the small side, but since he was still growing the Dr wasn't worried. Don't get caught up in what percentile they're at.....as long as she's healthy....someone has to represent the lower percentiles!!!

All babies are different sizes and if the doctors arent worried then u shouldnt be but always get a second opinion if you dont feel u agree, Rice cereal in bottles seemed to fatten both my daughter right up and she's 9months and 20 lbs.. my first daughter was about 16lbs at 9 months.. try a teaspoon of rice cereal in her bottle at night.

I dont think weight is a big issue as long as she is healthy and developing and meeting all her milestones. Those things are a bigger concern for me.

Emily was 16 lbs at 9 months and is basically considered petite like a previous poster said. Check the percentile curve and as long as she is consistently gaining weight she's fine. It's any major dips that they worry about. How tall is she? That's a factor too.

Some babies are small. My baby weighs 17lbs at 9 months. The doctor was not worried about it because he was growing (height wise) properly. I would just keep a record of the amount of food/bottle she takes each day. Keep your doctor informed about the amount of food/bottle she eats.

Hi Casey, we had a weight check today, 15lb at 9 mths, they werent worried as she is growing well just that she's on the lower side of the percentile chart, petite is what we call it :)
I wouldnt worry as long as she is eating and gaining weight even if it is taking a little longer than the norm. Talk to your doc at nxt check up if you're concerned.

i dont think so.. im assuming shes just a tiny girl. as long as her growth is on track (following the curve on the percentile chart) then theres nothing to worry about. my son is the exact opposite, hes huge. he'll be 10 months june 2nd and at his 9 month check up he was 31 inches long and weighed 26lbs!
