Glucose screening test

Just got results for my glucose screening test and my levels are a bit high. Am going back next week for a glucose tolerance test to check further. I'm not overly worried as I don't have any risk factors and even if it does come back high, gestational diabetes is very treatable. Though, I would miss my sweets for the next three months!

Just wondering if anyone else has ever gotten a high result from the screening test and how often it turns into a GD diagnosis???

Some of you were saying you had to do fasting for hours when I went for my glucose test I only had to fast for 1 hour you might want to check that up with your doctor or midwife cause I dont think you are meant to fast for any more then 1 hour before you drink you glucose drink and sit for 1 hour after before getting your blood test done.

I think the levels keep coming back high just because they starve you lol

lol I just finally got my test done after (bad me) holding off for 3 weeks! I definitely wasn't looking forward to the fasting 4 hours then drinking pure sugar, lol. Luckily, even if it is diagnosed, it goes away afterwords. So everyone make sure to bring the sweets this way after shannon's birth! lol

I had a high result with my daughter and went back for the 3 hour test and the results were totally fine. The same thing happened to me recently and now I'm going back for the 3 hour one tomorrow. I'm hoping obviously that the same thing happens again.

I had a high reading with my first baby. I went and sat there for the 3 hours to take the long glucose test....which was really really boring :) and everything cam out just fine. No GD for me, I hope it's the same with this one too...with out having to take the second glucose test of course LOL

Interestingly enough its not the sweets you have to cut down/out its the carbs. I have GD again and its better (as a treat not regularly since there's no nutrition) to have a candy bar than say a muffin! I think the rates are 5-10% of women get GD, most can be treated with diet and excersise alone. With my daughter I was able to manage it up until the last 3 weeks of pregnancy, with this one I've unfortunately been on insulin for over a month now :(

Another thing to note is A LOT of people fail that initial screening and most of them pass the 3 hour so I wouldn't worry to much especially if you have no family history of diabetes, over 35 and are not overweight (the 3 highest risk factors, although it doesn't mean you're 100% safe if you don't have them). Good luck!
