I'll put chickpeas and vegetables and other goodies in some hot couscous, and it makes it a nice one-dish meat-free meal. I usually use curry powder, cooked onions, raisins, and maybe some carrots or green beans.

If you want to make your own falaffel, you can soak dry chick peas, then run them through the food processor with 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp coriander, 1/2 c fresh parsley and cilantro, salt and pepper, and 1/2 tsp baking powder. Form into balls, and fry in hot oil until well-browned. They go really well with hummus and some lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers in pitas for sandwiches.

If you are into Indian food, there are some lentil/split pea dishes (called dal or dhal) that can be made, usually with split chickpeas, although I've seen a few that use whole. I'm afraid I don't have any of those recipes, though.

There's a variety of dips that can be made beyond hummus, some calling for lemon juice and yogurt.

Try googling, and see what you get!

Hi, they are really nice in a tomato sauce as well, maybe with rice or pasta (you can hide other small veg in there too). Also have you tried making falafels (look up a recipe) he might really like it. They go well with tuna too, again as a sauce or salad. Hummus might be great cos you can give him lots of different foods to dip (veg sticks, bread sticks, crackers etc) which is fun.

Use real garlic for hummus, it tastes better, and i found using the liquid from the beans can make many ppl very gassy so i use water instead of the canned liquid. just thought i'd let you know my experience, lol

i put them in lots of rcipes, i love chick peas! Of course hummus! but also chilies, curries, soups of all sorts and many salads, you can use them to garnish lettuce salads too. as a quick snack you ca litely roast them in the oven tossed with olive oil, salt and your favorite seasoning.
chick peas are used alot in indian, middle eastern and Mediterranean cuisine
Have fun!

They are wonderful fried. after you fry them you can toss them in any seasoning or just a little salt. But you can use things like taco seasoning or ranch dressing mix. Also hummus is really easy to make I use doritos to dip it but you can use pita bread which is traditional.
