I think he is doing just fine but I am not sure what he should be doing at this age

He should be learning to crawl or walk...depending on which he is more partial to.  Of course it could be a few months before he masters either skill, but be sure to give him many opportunities to get in the floor to practice. You should also be letting him try some foods that are more solid, like puffs or yogurt melts.  Encourage him to self-feed with both the bottle (if bottle fed) and finger foods.  Most importantly, READ to him as much as you can.

I think all babies learn pretty different things at different stages. My daughter is almost 8 months she babbles constantly, she can stand herself up in her crib and can pull herself up on other things around the house. She is learning to turn the pages of books when we read, she cant crawl yet but she is an expert scooter! She can walk holding onto our fingers and loves bombing around in her walker. She is really good at spoon eating and raking up little objects with her fingers (to my horror). I am starting to do "animal sounds" with her and also patty cake. She recognizes her name and when I say "patty cake" she puts her hands out-she can also high five! Again babies learn different things at different stages. Whats your little guy up to?
