What did the therapist say? Was it a learning disability? If not, she may just need extra help with her reading. Are you working on her reading with her at home? Although it may not be ideal, leaving her back a grade may be beneficial for your daughter. She is young enough that being left back may not have as great an impact. Also, since she will be repeating the same lessons, she may actually gain confidence because she has already been exposed to it. Overall, I think you need to weigh the risks of low self-esteem for each situation. Either she get left behind and can get additional help with her reading or she advances to the next class where the she may be overwhelmed with the schoolwork due to her reading. Also, there are tutors you can hire to help her or if she likes being on a computer or tablet, there are many apps/games that she could play that would help her with her reading as well (such as ABC Mouse). I hope this helps and I’ll be praying for your daughter.
