looking for good gluten free recipes.

Recently my doctor has told me that she want me to go on a gluten free diet and even said my children would most likely benefit from it too. I am working on getting/eating all the products with gluten and switching everything to gluten free, but I need recipes. Do any of you ladies have any good recipes? Especially recipes that kids like?

Hi,you could try making humus,which is a really nice snack to have and gluten free or Pakora which has as it,s base gram flour.

2 tins cooked chichpeas(garbanzos)
3 lemons (juice of)
1/3 cop extra virgin olive oil
pinch of salt
4 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons tahini(light)
2 teaspoons cumin
Place it all together in a food processor and whizz until smooth.Add a tickle of water to help it move round and serve with natchos.

1 onion finely diced
1 potato finely diced
1 bunch of cilantro finely diced
3 teaspoons madras curry powder
1 cm of fresh ginger grated
2 cloves of garlic crushed
1 fresh chilli(up to you how hot you want this to be)
4 cups fine gram flour(sieved)
1 level teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
Mix all ingredients together dry and then start adding water until you have a thick but dropping consistancy.Deep fry in oil at about 170 until cooked through.Serve with a yogurt dip.

My husband has coliacs, its one of those thing you can get used to. Its simple really. Most things you can make replacing normal flour with gluten free flour (makes the best brownies). There is some really great gluten free packet cake mixes (eg: orgran mud cake, and butter cake).
Also arnotts biscuits make rice cookies which are delicious and gluten free, you can use these to make bases for things like cheesecake and caramel slice.
I've found not to buy big name gluten free pasta like "Sanrimo" Because it tastes discusting and goes gluggy, your better of with plain corn and rice pastas (basco, buontempo and orgran make these). Also watch packet foods, flavored chips, quick rices and sauces oftern have wheat or gluten hidding in them. Coliacs also need to top their fibre intake, so if you eat lentils thats good. If not, you could start adding them into things like curries and shepherds pies (sanitarium make tined savoury lentils, which are all ready cooked and flavoured so just chuck em in, my husband cant even tell they're in a shepherds pie).
Please don't let people overwhelm you with "how difficult is is to eat gluten free". All the best, happy eating! ;)

Black bean brownies (YUMMMY) I promise.


1 (15.5 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained

3 eggs

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

1/4 cup cocoa powder

1 pinch salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3/4 cup white sugar

1 teaspoon instant coffee (optional)

1/2 cup milk chocolate chips (optional)

1 teaspoon baking powder.


1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8x8 square baking dish.

2.Combine the black beans, eggs, oil, cocoa powder, salt, vanilla extract, sugar, and instant coffee in a blender; blend until smooth; pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top of the mixture.

3.Bake in the preheated oven until the top is dry and the edges start to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 30 minutes.

Not to pry but are you a celiac? My daughter was diagnosed four years ago and I too am haveing problem with recipes that don't cost a fortune! I have found that if you take out most if not all regular breads this helps but you can also go on celiac sites and they will lead you to many things that are gluten free. Celiac is a digestive problem with foods that have gluten......

www.celiac.com has some good recipes, and here's a few ideas of snacks that my kids like: all sorts of raw nuts mixed with dried cranberries and/or raisins and chocolate chips (read the label, might have to get the choc chips at the health food store or go with carob chips), apple slices topped with either peanut butter, or slices of cheese, or dipped in yogurt, refried beans topped with sour cream (or plain yogurt) topped with shredded cheddar cheese topped with shredded lettuce and served with corn chips, banana slices topped with peanut butter and raisins, homemade granola (provided you're allowed to have oats), someone above mentioned Trader Joe's - I love their brown rice pasta which is supposed to be gluten free and it's cheaper than most grocery store rice pasta! Minute Rice is another kid-friendly quick and easy dish (their website probably has tons of recipes). Best of luck to you!

I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease a year ago, so I've been GF (gluten free) since then. The easiest way to cook in my opinion is to learn suitable substitutes and use regular recipes. Go to your local health food store; they should have GF breads, pastas, flours and cake/pizza dough mixes. Any recipe that calls for flour as a thickener, use corn starch instead. If the purpose of the flour is to help bind the ingredients, use an extra couple eggs. (GF products tend to be crumbly because they're missing the gluten which helps hold things together.) For breadings, corn meal works well as a breadcrumb substitute and mochiko (rice) flour works well as a dredge or frying batter. You will pretty much have to cook from scratch, but you can still use the same recipes.

My Father in law can't have gluten eather so I have been learning as well the gluten free cooking. In some ways it's not to hard to do.

We do nachos sometimes using the corn tortilla chips. We put the refried beens on about half of each chip and sprinkle taco meat and pour nacho cheese over top and bake for about 15-20 min in the oven at 350.

I just made enchiladas the other day and they turned out very well. I used the corn tortillas, 1lb. ground beef, taco seasoning, 1 can refried beans, mexican shredded cheese, and 2 cans red enchilada sauce.

-Brown your meat and season with taco seasoning and mix in a half a can of

the sauce and about 1-2 cups of cheese.

-Pour a small amount of sauce on the bottom of the pan just enough to lightly

coat it.

-Spread the refried beans in you tortillas and add your meat.

-Roll your shells and pour your sauce over the top of the enchiladas so no

shells are without sauce.

-Sprinkle with about 2 cups of cheese

-Bake at 350 for 30 minutes

If you like to barbeque be carful of the sauces...some have gluten in them.

For desserts we make rice crispies, apple crisp with Bobs Red Mill gluten free oats, Bobs Red Mill brand brownie mix, and we just recently tried Betty Crocker brand Choc. chip cookies and we were NOT happy with them. The cookies crumbled very easily. The brownies were very good and moist. Just so you know they don't really look done when they are you just have to use a tooth pick to test them.
