premade/box meals like hamburger helper

I normally don't use them but once in awhile it is just easier. Therefore I am wondering home many of you use the premade meals such a complete meal by betty crocker and then add your own ingredients to help either to spice up the meal or make it healthier. And do you have any recipe ideas to kick them up?

I don't like to use box meals. But I have a family of 6. When I cook I use "frozen help." I want stuffed shells, i buy them frozen. I want meatball subs... i buy frozen meatballs. there's a lot that I use that's more from a freezer then a box. Steam and mash potatoes are my fave. You can buy them with garlic and stuff in them, or you can do that all yourself. Sometimes it's just as easy to do "semi-homemade" to all homemade.

When I was single, I used them all the time. But now that I'm a mom and unemployed and on a strict budget, I don't use them ever. My mom gave me a Fasta Pasta. Invest in one. They are cheap, and she happened to get 2 for the price of one. In as little as 15-17 minutes you can have a meal on the table! So, I throw my pasta in it and stick it in the microwave. While it is cooking, I brown the hamburger and drain it. Then I add my spices and sauces. If I'm doing tomato sauce, I add garlic, basil and oregano (salt and pepper to taste). Then I add a can of tomato sauce and let it all simmer. When the pasta is done, toss and serve. YUMM-O! I also do a mexican version with the egg noodles. After browning the meat I add corn garlic, chili powder, cumin and enchilada sauce. You can let the pasta simmer in the pan for a few minutes if ya want, but we usually dig right in. I'm sure you could play around with any spices and sauces your family loves.

I keep some around. We use Tuna helper abit because my 2 year old LOVES tuna so I don't always have time to think of something to do with it. We use haut usually I just hamburger helper sometimes but I usually make spaghetti or hash brown casarole. Whenever we do use them I add green beans, peas, or brocolli.

Here's the Amazon link. I have the rectangular Fasta Pasta, but I'm sure the other ones would work well too. My mom, myself, and my mother-in-law have one. I also told my old boss about it and his wife thanked my profusely. They have 4 kids and my boss is half Italian so they use it a LOT!

In the past, while my girls were growing up I usd hamburger helper often. These days they contain too much salt and we eat leaner.
