My daughters humming and clearing of throat

My soon to be 9 year old daughter has had a habit of quietly humming to herself when tired, not to any tune or anything, just a simple hum. Recently we took a family trip to Walt Disney World and I noticed her humming more often, I just assumed that because we were at Disney and always on the go, that she was just overly tired. We are home now for almost a month and her humming is so frequent, she can't talk without pausing to hum, she can't read a book out loud without humming after every few words she reads. I asked her to try to be more aware of this habit and try not to do it, so now her hum is starting to turn into a very noticable clearing of the throat. What can I do to help snap her out of this habit she is forming? Any suggestions????

I would like to refer you to webmd to look up Tourettes Syndrom. I have Tourettes and these are some of the symptoms. She possibly has no control over it. A lot of my tics, movements and sounds were a "bad habit" if you asked my mom. I wasn't diagnosed until 2003 at the age of 24 after I had my son and my symptons all of a sudden excalated. Check into it, keep a record and see her pediatrician. It may not be a habit. Lots of us with Tourettes function great so dont get discouraged if that is her diagnosis. I am prior service Army, a small business owner, mother of 3 and very active person. Hope you find some answers.
