Does anyone have advice on researching doctors and hospitals to find the best care for their LO? I was thinking about using HealthGrades. But am not sure if there is anything better out there?

Has anyone had any experience with LA Children's or Lucile Packard Children's Hospital?

Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.

We went to The Children's Hospital in Philadelpia when my son was born with a CHD. Everyone there was amazing, and treated us very well. Dr. Rome did my sons Cath procedure, and it was very successful. I would not take him anywhere else.

My daughter was diagnoised in utero with CHD.  We got to pick were we wanted to be delivered and treated.  Duke University Hospital is TOP NOTCH!  The level of care my daughter and I received was amazing!  The cardio team is wonderful and the PICU staff was the greatest!

Hi my daughter is awaiting surgery for Lucille Packards. We were scheduled last tuesday the 12 th and have been rescheduled 4 times due to no ICU beds. My daughters heart is enlarged and does need a mitral valve repair/replace, but not gravely ill. So obviously the emergencies are priority, just has been extremely stressful. We have had to put out significant expenses because we live a couple of hours away and did not get into Ronald Mcdonal house for a couple of days. On FMLA so lose income and we have paid 10 days for the house , couple days for the hotel, food, gas and still waiting for the surgery which is on standby for the weekend, so will have to drive up again. Have accrued about 500 in expenses so far !! So the hospital is amazing, her surgeon is one of the top in the country. We had a minor complication @ the preop visit the week prior on the 6th. The coordinator scheduled the wrong day for her preop, versus what was mailed and told so we had to be squeezed in, which took 8 hrs. Not too sure how critical your child is but if not in critical, expect lots of rescheduling.I  am patient because my daughter was one of those critical babies 9 years ago, and she is ok for another couple months. Otherwise the staff and support has been great and it is a beautiful hospital!

My experience with Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, FL was amazing. The surgeon Dr. Bleiweis saved my daughters life and we felt the whole experience could not have gone any better. The staff in the PICU not only took great care of my daughter but they took care of me and my family as well!

When we found out about our son, we were fortionate to be near a Children's Hospital. However, I know that you can go online and google the top ten for Children's Hospital and it should let you know which ones were better and why. On the doctors, we looked up our son's condition with top ten doctors and found out who was the best surgeons around. Also, talk to other parents at your doctor's office/hospital and ask them who they would recommend. Asking the nurses is always good too. Our hospital also had a pamplet on all the cardiologists and their specialties that we looked through. (We are in Colorado). Good luck!
