10 yr old acting like a teen already!?!

Since the begining of summer my son has developed a bad attitude. Very sarcastic. I'm just not sure how to deal with it. For example, I tell him to clean his room and he totally refuses. So, I tell him he can't come out of his room until its done and he says "I don't care". Then falls asleep on his bed. Anyone else have a 10 year old like this, have I done something wrong with my parenting, or could it be friends he hangs with?

All kids go through this.My daughters get sentences for when they are bad and believe me when you tell your child to write 50 sentences they start to straighten up.Me and my husband are hardcore when it comes to discipline. We are also a teddy bear for giving them what they want, but we have to do what we feel is right for the child at the time.
For cleaning his room give him a time limit and tell him if it not cleaned that you will start throwing away his stuff. He will call your bluff.
Set the time limit if you go back there after that time limit and he has fell asleep or not done anything then pick up a couple of his toys or something he likes and tell him that they are being trashed.(you can save them and put them away for now,but dont tell him that or just throw them away)He will get upset and clean his room and if he doesnt then he does not care and trash the stuff then you will not have to worry about him not cleaning his room.It might sound cruel but you are the parent and you need to be hard or he will never listen to you.I did this to my girls and they now keep their room clean.yes I have to tell them to clean it but they do with no problems. My youngest daughter is 9 years old.

Is a hard stage in children and difficult for parents to deal with. Asking children for their cooperation by giving them the opportunity to come up with a solution for the problem can help. I read Positive Discipline books by Jane Nelsen, and they have help me a lot. Try to look in to it. I am sure it may help.
