Kids and technology

Why does it seem like kids are slowly fading out the outside world? Every time I see a kid their nose is in a DS, cell phone, wii game, mp3 player, ect....My own daughter has her own net book, cell phone, wii and other stuff so I know I am partially at fault, but when she throws a temper tantrum when I tell her she can't play on the computer, I have a problem. Also if I suggest she go play outside and she looks at me like I am from another planet I have a problem. Don't get my wrong, she goes outside and plays but it never lasts to long because all the other kids are in the house playing on their technological devices. When did we let technology take over?

My kids only have a set amount of time on any electronics. and I 'kick them out' after home work is done to play outside with out them until dinner is ready, they can have their electronic time after dinner.

My oldest has his phone with him at all times because he isn't home until early evening because of after school sports and he needs to let me know when to expect him home and stuff, even when he comes home after dinner he is at the tennis courts or running.
My second to the oldest isnt into sports so he goes for walks when i make him go out.

The little two go on bike rides or play with friends.

I think alot of times kids do what they see so if mom and dad go out and play they will too.
