My tree nut allergic son had a reaction after Halva (a middle eastern delicacy made of sesame). His allergist claims that they are seeing a ton of their peanut and tree nut allergic patients also react to sesame.
Has anyone else here experienced this?

Yes, yes, yes! This happened to us. Our daughter's first severe allergic reaction was to sesame when she had a teaspoon of hummus right around her first birthday. I've met a huge number of people since with sesame allergies. And they're surprisingly everywhere- bagels, pretzels, hummus, halva as you mentioned, zataar, and not to mention Chinese food which uses a ton of sesame oil. My daughter also has severe allergies to tree nuts, peanuts and shellfish. Good luck managing you son's sesame allergy.
