I must sing the praises of HEMP Milk

This has truly been a life saver for us, so I thought I'd pass it along instead of all my questions about other allergies :)

First, we are not a granola, hippie family (although I wouldn't mind being one, but my husband is SO NOT), so the use of hemp is not some silly way to tap into my inner tie dye

Our son is cow's milk and soy intolerant. I breastfed for as long as a could, but he was still not thriving from it. I've tried every formula they make, and all cuase either diahrea, or he won't drink it at all. THen praise God, I found hemp milk.

Hemp milk is WAY better than rice, or even soy for that matter.

It's just about the same price, and can be found at health food stores (or online).

It has all the benifits that cow's milk has (without the reaction of course), and even has way more Omega's 3's in it, and more calcium. It's not quite as high in fat at whole milk, so we do use olive oil or flax seed oil in our sons oatmeal, or other foods to boost his fat intake. BUt, the hemp milk far surpases Rice milk, and doesn't have the estrogen worries associated with Soy.

Our son gained 1 lb in a week on the stuff!!!!! WOOOWHOOOO!! THat was even weaning as well.

We do put Strawberry syrup in it to make the Vanilla flavored one taste better. I will wean him off the syrup soon I hope; that stuff has got to be bad for you.

Anyway, I am just so thankful we tried the stuff, and hope maybe this can help others. I am not a saleperson  just a momma who would go over the moon and back to help her son grow and thrive.

The brands we've tried are Manitioba Harvest, LIving Harvest, and one other (Hemp Dream I think), as well as made our own.

Give it a shot, we're glad we did!!!

Hello moms... my son is 5 months old and I want to try an alternative. Do any of you think he's at a safe age to try hemp milk? No allergies that I'm worried about and up until this point I've exclusively breastfed him. Our family situation has changed and I'm unable to continue breastfeeding him starting October. Please help!

Hi Jennifer,
I am considering hemp milk for my daughter who will be 1 yr old in 3 wks. I'm trying to research it as much as I can. I have read about the caragean in it and that it poses a cancer risk. Studies have shown for it to have caused cancer in rats. From my understanding it is some kind of perservative. Unsure about the spelling though. Have you heard about it? What are your thoughts? In addition, I surely want a product with little sugar. Thanks.

I just bought Nutiva Organic Hemp Protein Powder. The only ingredient is Organic Hemp Protein. The label says that most non-organic soy proteins are processed with hexane, a harsh solvent similar to gasoline. Hemp protein is very high in fiber which I have never seen a formula to have ANY dietary fiber. No wonder why bottle fed babies have such a hard time with their health, they can't poop. My breast milk has decreased dramatically and since I have supplemented with formula my 8 month old has been constipated. Hemp protein also is high in minerals iron, Zinc, and magnesium. Like the label says hemp seed is one of nature's most perfect super-foods, 37% protein, 10% beneficial fats, 43% fiber. This hemp powder is not fine enough and clogs the nipple on the bottle. I would recommend either straining the milk or adding it to food if you choose this one.

Sarah... . We use hemp milk, flax seed, etc. Also, my ped has adviced us to use suppliments when needed. Although, with a soy intolerance... it may be difficult to find a suppliment. Actually, my ped told us before we knew our daughter couldn't have milk... that children really shouldn't be on whole milk... because it has too much fat. She also advised us to use other sources of fat if we were concerned. :) But the main concern was getting the omegas.

My daughter refuses to drink hemp milk (she is funny about the fact that it isn't a solid color).... so she drinks soy (but only with syrup... sigh).... due to a milk allergy. However, we cook with hemp instead of soy.... it tastes much better. It takes some getting used to though... We get the origninal... because it has just a slight sweet taste... not enough to notice... but yet keeps from being quite as bland. I am totally pro legalization... because it will make this product so much more affordable in the US! It is a miracle!

I'm thinking about Hemp milk for my 1 year old. I use Coconut Oil in his diet already for the fats and other excellent benefits. Some hemp milk has a lot of cane sugar added though...

My daughter likes it. I made my own from hemp seeds once and she got sick off of it so it scared me. That was quite a while back so I bought some from Manitoba Harvest and gave her a few drinks today. Rice milk is just all carbs and I am hoping hemp milk can be a good alternative for her. I think the last time she got sick off of it because it was so rich for her. I yhink it tastes good. I do give her flax and olive oil to make up for the lack of fat she gets from rice milk.

I am considering weaning my son soon, who also has dairy and soy in tolerances. I have nursed for a year now and have been on the dairy/ soy free diet and I drink Hemp Milk, but have been wondering if hemp milk is OK for babies considering that it does lack in the fat area. Thanks for this post! Now I know that I can ask my Dr. about the flaxseed oil in addition to hemp milk for weaning!
