I have only one child that is 22 months old. He is a bit of a whiner but an all around happy baby. I have recently reconnected with my old boyfriend after 15 years. He has 4 kids and his youngest is 30 months. So my son and his son play together. They dont always play nicely. My question is that since Ive been dating him my son has been acting up. He has been whinning constantly, doesnt ask for things politely, and is just all around just different. Im not really sure how to handle this situation and I was hoping for some advice. Do i give into my son when he wants to be picked up every 5 minutes? is he not getting enough attention? He has fun with his kids. Im not sure what to do. Thanks for the help.

I feel your pain. My youngest is 14 months and has become quite the whiner and fit thrower over the past few months. (My older 2 were never like this!) Sometimes, I do feel like its because he is the youngest in a houseful of kids (My boyfriend and I have 5 total). He surely doesn't get the attention that my other 2 children got at his age. My boyfriend tells me that I give in too much, but I do try to teach him to use his words rather than whining and crying for what he wants. Its just going to be an adjustment period for him. Plus, your little boy is about to be 2. They don't call them "terrible twos" for no reason. It's literally like they become a different child overnight at this age. Just stay consistent and remind him that whining and crying is not the way we get what we want. Give him extra hugs and loves when he asks for them but don't hold him constantly. I try to hug and cuddle my little one then occupy him doing something else so I can get stuff done as well and he doesn't feel like he's constantly crawling behind me crying for my attention.
