My son has one on his lower back. I didn't notice it until he was a few months old. My initial reaction was how did he get that bruise but immediately I realized it's just a Mongolian spot. Our almost four year old daughter is very fair and never had a Mongolian spot so I wasn't familiar with them until I had my son. Both me and my husband are light skin (he is white, I am light skin Latina) so it was a surprise to me when my son came out dark but its common for darker skin babies to have Mongolian spots.

when my daughter was born, the doctor announced that she had mongolian spots. I replied, "we're not mongolian!!!",lol. she's 10 and still has them, though they've faded some.

yes my baby girl has one on her back. Looks like a big bruise. When she was born it was very dark and ugly but now she is almost 2 and it is fading some not so bad.

8 out of 9 of us (grand kids) had them as babies, the spots have since faded. My nephew and my son had one, my son's wasn't as dark (he's olive but lighter complected) my daughter who is as fair as fair gets did not have one. Some fade some don't but nothing to worry about.
It's called a Mongolian spot because of the ancestry. Named after Mongolians. large percentage of Asians(90%), Native Americans(80%) and Hispanics(70%) are born with these spots. Nothing to worry about.

Toria my 3 year old her skin is starting to darkin up like her daddy's skin and now I can see a small mongolian spot on her rear. I had the doctor take note of it so if anyone like at day care or school tries to say it is a bruise then there is proof on what it is to save me from any questions on it. And so far my 5 month old son doesn't have one. But my niece who is 4 years old has one all the way acrossed her rear.

My 5yr old has one right above her butt. It's almost all gone. It's just a shadow now. My brother had one too. he's all grown up and it was long gone when he was a little boy. Some people say there good luck.

my son has them too! horrible name for them. he has a huge one on his bum. it looks like he was punched by a grown man. it is pretty dark and has not faded. and he is dark too! my daughter thinks it is funny. the doctor said it would fade and probably go away but he is one and a half so i doubt it.

yes. my daughter has them - the doctor said they should fade by adulthood - but I spoke with some adults that still have some. Fortunately, they're not somewhere too visible.
