My 7 wk old son does not sleep at night. He wakes up around midnight every night and stays awake until 4 or 5 am. I tried to giving him a bath, giving him rice in his bottle at night. Please help..

Swaddle (the kind with velcro that won't come undone) --- sling or carrier also worked to help my child sleep longer.

My mom gave our son chamomille tea when he was about a month and a half.he slept fine that night,i was never able to find that tea at our walmart so we went thru alot of sleepless nights.Hubby also would turn the radio on some static station and place it behind the baby's crib(not too loud)A nurse told me they enjoy that sound since it reminds them of the womb,we did that until he got tired of it lol

Don't do the rice thing either. It is not healthy, babies need to wake up in the middle of the night to eat. Their stomachs are too small to go longer than 4 hours w/o eating. If they were meant to sleep longer, they would.

Agree with Rosa. I'm a nurse and yes, that is what they do. I know it gets exhausting but they get hungry, mess and miss their mommas.

My son is 2 years old and still wakes up at least once per night - but he goes back to sleep pretty quickly. He didn't get down to only 1 awakening per night until 13 months old. Plus, just from what I have seen, it seems boys are more active at night than girls.

feed him well before bed time,Bed time could be 11pm,make sure he is no taking naps before like at 5pm.
Feed him again at 6 am,do tthis for awhile and you will see it willl be more easier for you and your baby. If you put him to bed a 7pm or 8 pm, 6 hours later he is going to be wake up.
dont feed him is he awakes during 11pm to 6 am ,just check if he is fine and clean and go back to your bed.
If your son sleep with you.................Iam sorry for you and your husband!

I would try getting the baby into a routine that works for the both of you. Give the baby a bath with the lavender baby bath shortly before bed and bottle. Then try to put cereal into the bottle to make it thicker so that the baby is fuller longer. Then rock baby while giving the bottle. Baby should doze off and if not try to play music and sing to the baby or read a book so baby can hear your voice while drifting off to sleep for the night. He's not that old so he may just want to hear your voice for awhile. And try not to let the baby sleep so much during the day so he'll be more pron to fall asleep at night.

I understand PUT BABY CEREAL INTO THE FORMULA SHAKE IT UP TIL IT'S THICK. Make sure it's warm it will fill it up the baby. I learned after the first child 18 years ago. Start out with Rice because it's light maybe after the 3rd week try Barley or Oatmeal later try Mixed cereal. Let me know if it works.

I had a preemie over 3 years ago. When I brought her home she weighed just under 5 lbs. She was born at 3lbs 9oz. That being said she was way too small to sleep through the night without waking every 2 to 3 hours for a bottle in which she only drank 2 to 3 ounces of breast milk. To make it last at least an hour longer I'd put some baby cereal in it and she'd going for 4 hours. I also learned to make her bed time a routine. EVERY night at 8pm I would bathe her, do a lotion body massage, give her a bottle, rock her for about 10 to 15 minutes and put her in her bassinet. She was passed out for the majority of 5 hours...as a new mommy 5 hours was heaven! All babies are different in how they run and operate so give it time...7 weeks is still really young to expect a full night sleep.

i just went in for his 2 mth ck up and the dr pretty much said you can try and try but when hes ready he will sleep thru the night for now be happy hes not up ALL night. SO i guess maybe try not letting him nap so much or all day if he still does as well as maybe for the last bottle bathe him after that one or play w him until he falls alseep.

well..i used the johnson's bed time bath (lavender) and it worked for me...i also heard that if you put a spoonfull of vanilla icecream in the night milk (and mix it well, be sure it melts in the milk) it helps them sleep all night...good luck

yeah but you can't give ice cream to a little baby....especially vanilla too much sugar plus it has cow's milk....... and by the time they are old they will sleep throgh the night.

Does he sleep too much during the day? He might have his times confused. i would try keeping him awake more during the day. Also, the up down method if he cries when you leave him. You keep picking him up untill he stops crying and than put him back down and walk away if he is not crying. You may have to do it literally 100x's for the first 2-3 days. It worked for me.

What helped me with my son was putting my husbnads teeshirt next to him for a while because since my husband worked at night and came back late he would wait for him and with the lettuce thing I would make him a tea with that also and give him some like 1/2hr before his last milk wich would be around 10:30 or 11p.m and he would sleep till 6:30 in the morning atleast. Try it hopefully it works

To understand the problem we have to understand why it is that way. When we are pregnant babies sleep during the day because we are walking and with that we are rocking him to sleep. At night we rest and they start to wake up and be active in our stomachs. Once they are born, to take them away from this routine we have to wake them up during the day so they feel too tired to wake up during the night. This will take some time and it isn't convienient for us at times but it really is the easiest way to switch them around to a routine of falling asleep at night. Good luck.

what worked for my son was a warm bottle of formula with bananas. then sittin in the living room, .wrapped real tight jello jiggling against my chest with nora jones or salsa romantica music playin in the background. ten minutes and he'd be out for the night.

something i did with my second girl (had that same problem) was put to boil the leaves of a whole lettuce with enough water for 5 to 8 min. after that, pour that water in your sons bath, batch him and leave him there for a while. You'll see how good he's going to sleep. Hope it helps u
