My toddler will only poop in diapers! How do I get her to poop in the potty? She pees in the potty all the time and is even staying dry at night???

Any Suggestions on getting an otherwise potty trained toddler to poop in the potty?

Hi, I am facing similar issue. My son is 3 year and 5 months old and has been potty trained more than 6 months now but he will request to use a diaper for poop. I am still struggling and trying everything I can. Let's hope this ends soon.

I had the same problem. My son would not poop in the potty. I got him to sit on the potty with a diaper on. This gets them used to just sitting and pooping, even if it's in a diaper. So, tell her she can have a diaper, but she will have to sit on the potty. After you get her used to that, cut a hole in the diaper. Kids are smart, so don't let her see it. Put the diaper with the hole on and have her sit. Soon she will realize the poop is in the potty. I explained this to my son by telling him he was now too big for diapers or pull ups and that the poop was falling out. It might take a little practice, but it worked for us!

My son use to do the same thing. I start making him sit on his potty even when he did not have to poop to get him comfortable with sitting down and using his potty. This is weird, but his facial expression always gave me a clue when he was about to start and sometimes i was able to get him to the potty before or right in the beginning of him starting. It was a lot of work, but he finally learned.

The only suggestion I can think of that you may not have tried yet is when she poops in the diaper take her and the diaper to the toilet and let her watch you put it in the toilet and let her flush. Say that is where the poops go.

Is she scared?  My daughter has never had this issue??  When we trained her we rewarded her for doing it maybe that could help.  Get a sticker board or something and each time she poops in the potty she can have a sticker and when she gets id ont know 10 or something she can get a treat or toy??  thats how madison did it.

Goodness... good luck!!

My son had a huge problem with this.. fighting crying.. refusing to put one on him.. it was a living hell most days when he decided he had to go.. then just one day, he ran for the potty and never looked back.. just take it as it comes... mine has had a lot of bathroom issues and seems that if i give him space and keep suggesting, but not pushing.. he comes around on his own... now if i could just get him to pee in public consistently!

Hi I had the same issue. My son Gavan had been potty trained for over a year never even wet the bed, but refused to poop in the toilet. I asked every one and tried everything including...stickers, prizes, books, movies, sitting on the toilet for long periods of time, dumping poop from diaper into toilet, buying "big boy" underwear, etc. Finally I decided to leave it alone, say nothing about it. One day I heard a happy screaming from the bathroom "mommy daddy come quick I POOPED...in the potty!" We haven't used a diaper since.
I know it is not the quick fix you are probably hoping for but after months of frustration he did it when he was ready. And I wish I hadn't stressed so much about it.

We're still going through this too, we even promised Oliver that if he poo'd in the toilet we would buy him the train he has been desperate for - the result.. a crying boy with tummy ache because he was so stressed about going on the toilet he held and held it !!

I guess they do it when they are ready - after all they won't be doing it when they are 5 (well I hope not) so I'm trying to let him decide when he's ready

I also got this experience with my 3 yr 9 months boy.  He pee in the toilet but still poop in the diaper for long time (and refuse to use potty).  One day i left 1 pc of diaper and show to him, "See, Mama only got 1 pc of diaper left and if you want to poop in the diaper, u got no more diaper to use and mama will not buy it anymore. So, maybe u try to poop in the potty this time, just try first! " .... it worked!! after poop on the potty few days, now he is pooping in the toilet!!  Hope this work for yours too!
