How much baby food are your babies eating?

I started my son on cereal at 4 months and just introduced veggies 2 weeks ago. He absolutley loves both! I was feeding him 2 oz of breastmilk with rice cereal, just making it thick enough for him, almost 1/4 cup, once a day and 2 oz of a homemade veggie, either carrots or squash, once a day as well. And it seemed that his poop was getting pretty thick and going a couple times a day (which is unusual for him.) He is nursing the same he had always been but I can't tell if he is getting the same amount of milk and each feeding. He seems full and content so the only problem that concerned me was his poop, and he may be straining a little when he goes. I have since dropped the veggies and just did the rice cereal and thats seemed to improve it. How often do you give you babies veggies? rice cereal? How much milk are they drinking in addition to that?

Sometimes just a new food will constipate, the baby. I would say it's more likely the cereal than veggies. My doc gave me a chart 4-6 months 2 servings of cereal one serving 2-3 tbsp 2x's a day, 4-6 servings of milk 6-8 oz daily.. One new cereal a week. Now with my daughter 2 servings of cereal isn't enough so I added sweet potatoes one week and then green beans and rice the next. She's also had chicken and sweet potatoes. I just gauge servings by how hungry she is. If she wants more I give it to her. My dr also said not until 6 months, but I figure we know our babies best. I know milk was not enough and neither was just cereal. Hope that helps.

I started adding rice cereal to my daughters bottels at 2 months old. Started veggies last week, and she eats about 1/2 a container then some apple sauce for dessert....started with Green Beans, now she's on sweet potatoes...

Rice cereal seems to be stopping my little girl up and she cannot sleep. I'm not sure why, so I am just EBF at 5months. I will try stage one foods at six months I guess.

it might be the carrots that are causing him to strain, they are well known to cause constipation. My little bubba has always had an appetite, he was eating apple puree at 2 months. He currently has 4 bottles 210 ml plus a lunch (meat and veg plus fromage frais or fruit) gouter(tea) of fruit plus diner (meat and veg plus dessert) but i don't give any carrot as he is always constipated after (try and avoid banana as well) help this helps
