I was watching "the doctors" a few months ago and they had a feature on thisl. They said one way to encourage a baby to walk is to get down at his level on your knees a few feet in front of him and hold something in your hand to motivate him to walk towards it and try to grab it or use the bubbles in a bottle and blow some towards him. I used my cell phone and our tv remote to motivate our son and it worked.

April- I hope that you have talked to the doctor about your son. Not walking yet is one thing, but if he's not developing the skills he needs to learn how to walk, that is a bit concerning.

My Daughter has been tessing use with walking since she turned 1. She is only 14 months now and just desided to walk. We had been trying to get he to for a while. She would stand all be her self just to tease us.

My daughter is 13 months and not walking either. She will walk fine if she is holding one of my fingers, or holding on to something. I think that she is just scared of falling but my doctor assured me that is was fine and not to worry, that she will walk when she is ready. In the meantime, I will be patiently waiting.

Hi! No you definatly don`t have to be worried!!! my son is 13 month old too and is still not walking either! He did his first 3 steps 2 days ago and is also very scared. But it is normal. Some kids start walking with about 15 month or later. Give him the time.. he will start running around soon!! xx

Sounds just like my daughter! My older girl walked at 11 months, but my youngest is very timid...I find she's like that with everything, not just walking. I'm sure he will get over his fears soon enough.

my daughter was one on march 21st and is more or less at the same stage as yours - she walks holding onto things and can stand on her own unaided until she realises it! Then she slowly bends down and starts to crawl. My first daughter walked at 14 months 10 days so I'm not worried. I don't think there is a "normal" for walking, it seems to be anytime between 8 months and 2 years. Don't worry!

My son is 13 months and he will walk with his walker and pushes things along etc but wont walk alone he will attempt it but takes 2 steps and gras the nearest thing and walks with that. I was told not to worry till he is 18mths, You watch suddenly your child will just get up and walk when you least expect it. My son usd to commando crawl everywhere for months then suddenly as soon as I come to terms with the fact he may never crawl properly he did. So bbe patient dont worry enjoy your what he/she can do because he/she will soon be runing around the house and you wil be saying why did I rush him into walking please please sit down. I no I will be lol :-)

From what I hear, it is perfectly normal for infants to not be walking at 13 months. My son took his first steps at 9 months and actually started walking at 11 months. As someone previously mentioned, use something for motivation. My son is crazy about the remotes and phones, so I would stand a couple of feet in front of him and hold them at his eye level so he would come get it. It worked for me! :)

my mom said i didn't walk til i was 15 mo! my son started walking at 10 mo so all kids are definitely on different time tables! enjoy the limited mobility while it's still there!

He is walking along furniture so he has the skill, it's just gonna take a little more time for him to build up the confidence. My first two children didn't walk until they were 14 months old, but my youngest started to walk by the time she was 13 months. All children grow and develop at different rates. Just keep helping him practice by letting him hold your fingers and walking around with him. You can also sit facing someone else, with a very short distance between you and have him walk to the other person. When he gets close enough to reach toward the other person and have to take a step, let go before they catch him. Eventually you can move further and further away and he'll be a walking fool in no time! But don't worry, he's perfectly normal!

Our son turned one on March 6th. On April 4th, we used the bubble trick and it worked great. He loved trying for all the bubbles. Then we worked to him walking to me or my husband. Once he fell down a couple of times and realized that it didn't hurt, he was all for it. Now he walks all over the place. He reminds me of a little penguin.

Yep, my son is 13mo too and isnt walking either. All his buddy's at daycare are walking and he's very happy just crawling and standing/walking while holding on to furniture. His teachers reassure me that its ok and that he may start walking soon. Im honestly in no hurry. Dont feel bad but I do understand your concern. Us mothers, want to make sure our baby's stay on track and achieve all their milestones!

my son is doing the same, except for the crying thing. i think that his activity chair time helps with strengthening his legs- and i also let him hold onto my hands and walk a few steps with me holding him. i am not worried about his not walking on his own yet- once he is walking, life will become a lot more hectic!! LOL!!

Hi Ashley. My son is almost 14 months and is still not pulling up or standing very well. He is content crawling on the floor. I worry so much about this, but everyone tells me that all babies are different. It sounds like your son is doing sooo well! He is almost there so you shouldn't be worried one bit.

It is normal. I think the range is anywhere from 10 to 18 months.
Sometimes I think it is quicker to crawl.
Do you have some push toys for him that might give him the confidence he needs, but I wouldnt worry if you are ask your Dr he/she gets paid to ease your fears.

Briar was born 3-4-09, he crusied around furnature for a long time. He finally let go about two weeks ago and hasn't looked back, he is all over the place. Last night he almost tried to run. Give him time, you will be running after him soon enough.

He will be walking before you know it! The longer they crawl the better. Better development for the brain. It's proven. But no worries he will be there soon. Enjoy this while you can:)

My son just started walking yesterday and he turned one March 7th My other two didn't walk until 15 and 18 months! From what I have been told the normal age for a child to start walking is any where from 10-18 months they don't even get concerned until the age of 2!

He will do it on his own time. My oldest daughter didn't start walking until she was 16 months old and she started pulling herself up things and walking against things starting at 9 months but was too scared to walk. And if she caught you watching her standing without holding onto anything she would hurry and grab something to hold.

holding his hand while he walks (both hands) this is exactly how i taught my 10 mth old to walk! every child walks at his own pace, just encourage it more, everyone is very different, you shouldn't be worried at all! :)

We as parents are always very anxious for our child to get to the next milestone and if they don't we feel like we're doing something wrong. We were very much like that with our first. I couldn't wait for her to do everything. With our second we're way more laid back and know he will do things when he's ready. As long as there are no apparent signs of something seriously wrong, leave him be and relax!

its perfectly normal, some babies dont walk until 18months or more, my son is 13 months and only in the last week has started walking by himself. He would take the odd step or 2 before that and that was all. Yet a friend of mine her little girl is the same age and still wont do that. Try perhaps a toy designed for walking behind to help build his confidence.

my son Theo is 13 months and not walking yet either. As long as your child is progressing and learning to do new things there's really no need to worry. 13 months is still within the normal range. I for one am quite glad my little guy isn't running around like some of the other kids we know. I will welcome it when he does walk, but until then I will enjoy not having to run after him.

my son is the same age and doing the exact same thing. i also have a 3 year old that was walking at 11 months. we went and bought a walker for our son to help build up the muscles in his legs. he'll walk while holding onto our fingers, on his own, just using us for balance. all i can say is just keep working with him and help him walk around the house while holding your hand.

Don't worry about it. It's totally normal. My 13 mo old son isn't walking either, unless he's holding onto something. As long as he walks by the time he's 18 months old, there's nothing to worry about. Enjoy it now before he gets into even more trouble and is running! :)

[deleted account]

he is a bit scared of walking grab his both his hands and help him walk you will see he does it no problem, but let go of one hand and he will start to freak it, he is afraid but eventually he will get a hang of it, buy him a walker so he can push and walk at the same time

Normal average age is 13-15 months. If your son isn't walking by 18 months, then you should talk to your pediatrician.
