Bedtime and how long your baby sleeps

Just curious as to what time other moms put their 8 month old babies to bed and how long they usually sleep at night. My daughter turned 8 months on the 15th of November so she is now 8 1/2 months. I start her bedtime routine at 8pm which usually starts with a last bottle feeding, then a bath, a lotion massage, then a lullaby and bedtime. She usually goes down with no problem and then sleeps for a max of 10 hours and is up by 6 am every morning.

Wow im learining lots from everyone, i thought i had it good! My routine with my lil girl (9 months old) is cereal and a fruit or dessert(yogurt or banana) around 830 then bath around 9-930 pjs lotion massage. Then between 945-10 bottle and i am still rocking her to sleep. By 1030 shes usually out then i put her to bed and she sleeps til 7-830 sometimes she wakes up during the nite but its rare. Im trying to wean her off from getting rocked to sleep. She naps about every 3-4 hrs for about average 45min during the day and her last nap is usually around 530-6.

My son sleeps like a little champ! :) But I began his sleep training from day 1. He goes to bed every night with the same routine that ends up with him asleep just minutes after 7 until 7:30 the next morning. He is also wonderful about laying down and going to sleep without fussing or playing. This was a lot of work but I am so glad I stuck with it b/c it is now totally worth the effort. My hubby and I enjoy nice quiet evenings together once the baby goes down.

Gavin just turned 9mths and he is a good sleeper now, but wasn't naturally so. From when he was born he was up every 2-3 hrs and by 5mths he was sleeping 9pm till 1 or 2am and then up every 2hrs after that till 8am. He also started being super fussy and crying a lot between 7-9pm. I thought is this the purple crying? since he was a pretty calm baby the rest of the time. Anyway, I felt like something wasn't right and started doing research on sleeping and a friend told me about the book 'Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child' (there is also a little video on Youtube). I read it(a very dry read) and it totally made sense. So now after 4mths of sleep training, I do our bedtime routine. Bath, pjs, brush teeth, story, nurse, rock in our chair for a minute or two and put him in his crib drowsy and he falls asleep with not one complaint. So he sleeps 5-5:30pm till 6:30-7am, but sometimes will wake up once to nurse and then right back to sleep. He also naps twice a day for about 40mins to11/2hrs and no longer complains about going down for them either. The key I've found is consistency and putting him down drowsy, but awake. So he has learned to sooth himself to sleep. It took a lot of hard work and a little bit of tough love, but I can say with certainty that we are all happy with the results, most of all Gavin.

My daughter is a great sleeper and basically always has been. Right now she goes to bed between 8 and 9pm, pending on how long she slept at her last nap. Then she will sleep 12-14hours from there. She normally takes 2 naps during the day as well. First nap is about an hour and a half and then 2nd nap is about 2 hours. When she is awake though she is non-stop moving. I think part of why she sleeps so well for me is that she eats so good before going to bed.

She normally falls asleep within an hour of eating a bowl of stage 3 food mixed with cereal and a bottle right before she lays down. When I lay her down I turn on her CD of classical music as well.

Now if I could only get my 2 1/2 year old to go to bed so good :) I dread bed/nap time with him. It is a screaming fit almost every night.

Krystin - thanks for the reply, I just re-read my post and realized I made it sound like the feedings at 4 & 5:30 were during the day, I meant I only nurse her at 4 am and 5:30 am! She eats baby food meals 3 times during the day as well as nurses. We've actually had a little break through here in the last few days, she has slept from 7:30 pm to 5:30 three nights in a row!!!!!!

My baby has solids at 6:00pm then a shower with either me or my hubby, playtime for about an ahour, and then at 7:30 its a nappy change, story and bottle in her cot, and she normally falls asleep about 10 mins after finishing her bottle. She then wakes up at about 8:30am. :) I know i have it really good!

My LO (3-15) goes down between 7-7:30 and falls asleep quickly. He sleeps until about 6:30. Whenever he wakes up a little earlier, it is always because he is having a bowel movement! He also takes two 1.5-2.5 hour naps each day.

Gretchen :) How often and how much does your baby girl eat? My son for example wakes up, gets a bottle 2 hrs later gets baby food w/oatmeal, takes a 2 hr nap. Wakes up has bottle, 2 hrs later baby food w/rice then 2 hr nap. So on for the rest of the day, having 4-5 bottles and 3 meals in a day and 3 naps. Also snacks like puffs from gerber or baby num nums crackers. When he goes down at 7 he sleeps soundly until 7, sometimes even 8am. Or have you tried that Johnsons bedtime bath and lotion? I hope she starts to sleep better soon!

Starting at around 6:30 we do jammies, read a book, and breastfeeding before bed time. My daughter, if we're lucky, will sleep from 5 - 7 hours. She often will wake up after a couple of hours though, and then sleep a longer stretch. Either way we always have at least 1 night feed, and she gets up at 7am.

Girls - I am totally jealous! My daughter (3-17) eats at 7 then we BF then bed by 7:30 and she's up at 11, 4, 5:30 and 6:45. Any suggestions? Maybe she is hungry? I only feed her at 4 and 5:30, should I give her more for dinner? Thank you!

Our little girl (3-13) gets her last bottle at 7pm and at 7:30 gets put in bed for the night and sleeps until 7am. She gets her bath earlier on in the day with her 2.5 year old brother.

my daughter gets a bottle around 730 or 8 and usually falls asleep about an hour later. she sleeps straight through the night until about 730 or 8am.

the only "routine" we have is the bottle and then after her bottle i will put in the baby einstein lullaby time DVD and she will play/watch it until she starts getting sleepy then i lay her in her crib and she will go to sleep on her own. although every once in awhile she will put up a fight haha :)

My little guy turned 8 months Nov. 29. He has his supper when we do around 6ish, then about 645 he has a bath, lotion, jammies, story, bottle, and bed by 730. He usually falls asleep to his bottle, but if he doesn't, we put him in his bed and he has no problem falling asleep on his own. He usually sleeps straight through until 7ish.

Of course we have the nights where she wakes up once or so but shes always been a great sleeper when she was a newborn she was a BF baby and woke for feedings every 3 hours!!

Sounds great! Ours goes to bed at 8pm aswell but wakes at 11:30 for a bottle then sleeps untill 7ish! He has learned how to pull himself up to standing so now it has become a process getting him to bed...an exhausting process!
Keri: Our LO used to do that as well but we finally after months and months passed figured out he was cold! As soon as we stareted layering him up he stopped doing that! Just a thought!

She wasn't always a good sleeper. Up until about 3 weeks, she would wake up at least 2-3 times during the night. Then I read about sleep training online, developed a bedtime routine, and decided to give it a go. After just a couple of nights, I saw a major improvement, and she's been sleeping through the night ever since. I didn't have the bedtime routine before, and I find that it has also played a big part in her sleeping better. Like your LO Keri, she does sometimes wake up during the night and whine for a few seconds, but then she goes back to bed without me having to get out of bed.

My bedtime routine is exactly the same as yours. The only difference is my little on wakes up a 4 am screams for about 30 secs falls back asleep and gets up at 6am. I have no clue why he does that every morning at 4, but he has been doing it for weeks now.
