I have twin boys who will be 9 months old tomorrow. They are still taking 3-5 bottles during the day and 1-2 bottles at night. How many bottles is normal and what do you do to really start moving them off of them. THey are also eating 3 meals a day.

I think that some of you are a little to harsh on your babies!! ;) I feed my daughter whatever she wants! She usually has 5-6 bottles (4-6 oz) and three meals a day. Breakfast (bagels, english muffin, pancake, waffle all topped with fruit) lunch (pasta, yogurt, hot dog, all with a veg & fruit), and then dinner (whatever we are having). And she usually goes to bed at 6:30 and wakes between 5-7 am for a morning bottle!! I never really MADE her schedule. Everytime I make her a bottle, I make it 6 oz and she drinks whatever she wants. I am not forcing her to eat nor am I depriving what she wants.. I think it really depends on what each child desires. All babies are different!! Don't stress that you are feeding too much!!

My daughter has a 7 oz bottle in the morning when she wakes up and then breakfast and another bottle before her 11 am nap time (usually only 5 oz) and then she has lunch when she wakes up and another 5 oz bottle after lunch and 5 oz before her second nap around 4 pm and then she wakes up has dinner and another 5 oz bottle before bathtime and then another 7 oz bottle before bedtime at 9 :) and she sleeps all the way til 830 in the morning again. I also give her a sippy cup of water after meals and sometimes a biscut or cheerios in between meals :) Ive also read from many different sources that 24 oz is pretty normal for them to eat during the day...if they are waking up during the night do you get up and go to them right away? When Avery wakes up during the night I let her cry for about 10 minutes because she will usually go right back to sleep, she just needs to find her soother again...my dr told me that once they reach 13 pounds there is absolutely no reason they cant sleep through the night without night-time feeding :)

@Kasey Quinn you probably should start feeding him every 4 hours instead 3 hours that might be too close for him and thats why he is not hungry that is how my little man is. My little man is about to be 9 months on the 30th nd @ Stefani Donald there really isn't a right number of bottles to feed your baby if he is atleast getting 24 oz or more than your doing fine i've read this many times on different websites if you have anymore concerns gerber.com helps me alot im a first time mother so i really don't have the slightest clue to what I'm doing either but check out the website and it'll help you with the feeding and everything Good Luck!!

my baby has 3 meals a day and 3 8 oz bottles(240ml). she has two one hour long sleeps during the day and sleeps 11 hours at night. its good to feed them as they get hungry instead of feeding them to a schedule each day, as it is unlikely that they will both have the same appetites each day.

Wow! Our LO takes 1-2 bottles a day, if that, and none at night. He also eats 3 full meals and a couple of snacks.

To wean off, start with removing one or both night feedings. By this age, they don't need to eat at night... it's really more of a comfort thing. Eventually, once you do that, you can then work on the daytime ones.

good luck!

Well I breastfeed, so I am not sure what he gets from me, but I have low supply so I've always had to supplement. He is nursed first thing in the am, then gets five 6 ounce bottles in a day, he gets a bottle when he's hungry, which is every three hours, I always nurse before he gets a bottle. We do baby led weaning so he does not eat solids daily but on average he eats one solid a day, usually a meat and a veggie and a fruit. I nurse him throughout the night as we co sleep.

Mason is down to 3-4 bottles a day and 2 bottles at night. He likes to have a bottle with his naps and before he goes to bed.

At 9 months bottle fed babies are ready to night wean. (Source: "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child") They should be getting all of their needed calories during the day. I personally don't think 5 bottles a day is too many. At nine months they do still need the nutrition in formula or breast milk. When they are closer to 1, you will start replacing bottles with food. They will move to 3 meals and 2-3 snacks. I personally continued to give my daughter a bottle before nap and bed for 6 months, just to give her diet a boost!

My son takes 3 6-8 oz bottles a day. Two naps and bedtime. He eats 3 times a day and sleeps through the night. Your boys sound like maybe they need a little more during meal time? There's no 'need' for them to be eating anymore at night, it's just habit now. I would try feeding them more during the day and weaning them off of that night bottle first. you need your sleep Mommy! I'm no 'doctor' but I am a Mother of 4, it sounds to me like they could use more solid food during the day. It sounds like a lot of bottles at 9 mths. Make sure they get enough solids and then you may have to listen to the crying at night to get them out of that habit, it's hard, but it's worth it. Like I said, you need your sleep. Good luck to you!!

My daughter nurses when she wakes up. About an hour later, she gets a bowl of cereal with fruit and meat mixed in (it is the only way we can get her to eat meat). I give her a bottle of water with her meal. She usually only drinks a couple ounces. A few hours later, she nurses again. She gets her second bowl of cereal, with water, around lunch time. She nurses again, around 3p.m. and takes a nap. Then, she eats dinner with the family. She nurses, again, right before bed (about 8p.m.). She sleeps through the night, so we have no nighttime feedings.

My son is 9 mo he has about 5 bottles a day 6 oz each. he also eats 3 meals a day and snack once in afternoon. Im more concerned on weaning him off jar food than bottles riht now we are having issues getting him to eat table food. He only wants jar food. We will worry about lowering bottles next month. He also drinks water from a sippy during meals.

my son will be 9 months on the 31st and usually drinks 3-4 7oz bottles per day, plus 3 meals and 2 snacks per day. he stopped needing nighttime feedings about a month ago when he started to (finally!) sleep through the night. he has a 5-7oz when he wakes up, 5-7oz before his first nap, sometimes an afternoon bottle of 5-7oz and 7oz before bed.

I have twins too, boy and girl. They eat solids 2-3 times a day with finger foods too and 3-4 bottles. They take 2-3 naps a day, usually for more than an hour. At night they sleep for 11 hours. Sometimes waking up, we stopped feeding them at night because they began to expect it. Once we cut them off they slept through the night, no problem.

mine is about 9 mths old as well. He usually drinks about 5 to 6 bottles of formula (8oz each)! He doesn't always have solids at dinner, but he always has breakfast and lunch. I've tried feeding him more solids but he still drinks the same amount of milk!

I hardly give my daughter any formula. She has a 6 oz bottle before nap time around 12:30 and another 6 oz bottle before bed at 8:30. My doc told me that 12 oz a day is fine, because in order to switch to milk at 1 year they have to consume no more then 16-24 oz of formula. So you don't have to be on a strict regimen with formula feeding anymore.

I hardly give my son any milk compare to everyone on here!! He has a 6oz bottle in the morning (I use 4 oz of this to make his cereal and the other 2oz he drinks), he has a 4oz bottle with his dinner and no bottle with his tea then a 9oz bottle before bed and I was considering doing away with the 4oz dinneritme one soon!

My daughter is 9 months and she has 3 bottles (250ml morning and just before bed for the night, and 200 mls afternoon). I think it all depends if you child does't sleep thro the night yet.

My 9 mo son takes 4 - 5 6oz bottles a day and eats 3 meals, some are more then others depending on his appitite My older son he always took 5 or more bottles a day and night for the first year. 24 - 32 oz a day is all that they need, if they are hungery more offten then give them more baby food or finger foods that are easy to disolve like puffs or cherrios. Good Luck!

I'm slowly changing my son over to sippy cups because I didnt do it in time with my daughter ( so I learnt ) because now it is almost impossible to switch over. For bottles though he only has one when he goes down for a nap and either 1 or 2 at night time. The very odd time he will wake up really early ( about 4am) and I will give him a bottle then, He eats 3 meals a day and once in a while those baby cookies once or twice a day.

My daughter (9 months) eats every 3 hours(5 bottles a day) and gets 5.5 -6oz in every bottle, 2oz of formula and the rest is my pumped breastmilk. She sleeps through the night so no night bottles anymore! She eats 3 meals a day usually yogurt for breakfast and for lunch and dinner its usually whatever we are eating and I just blend it in the food processor with some water, and then she has a lot of snack throughout the day. trying to get her to take a sippy cup but since she has a cleft palate its hard for her, but hopefully after her surgery in Jan, she will be able to get the hang of it better.

I also have 9 month old twins, girls. They are on 3 meals a day, and with each meal they get a 5 ounce sippy. The only bottle they get is a 9 ounce bedtime bottle. They don't get anything if they wake up during the night. I plan to get them off of the bedtime bottle after the holidays.

My baby will be 9 moths on the 5th of january & he usually drinks 3-5 bottles a day. He also eats 3 meals a day, 2 consisting of rice & a jar of fruit or veggie, & people food (dinner w/ the family every day). You should start to wean them off of bottles & onto a sippy cup around this time (at least thats what my dr said, so that is what im doing).

My daughter will be 9mos on the 19th. She normally has 3- 7oz bottles (6oz of formula to 7oz of water due to constipation issues). Sometimes she will have a 4th pending on her sleep. She will also eat 3 stage 3 meals mixed with cereal.

oh just thought of another thing. how much are you putting in each bottle? because that does sound like a lot. maybe if you put more in each bottle, and cut the amount of bottles down.. then it will satisfy them for longer and maybe they will wake up less during the night.?

my son has 5oz sippy cups of milk every 3 hours and some time he gets up 2-3 times at night and has a 4oz bottle and other nights he just wakes once or dont wake up. But the last couple of weeks he seems to not want any milk or juice or baby food i have to fight him to eat its crazy cause he usually screams wanting food every 3 hours and now i have to force him to eat. So hes been drinking a couple of oz at a time all thre the day and about a jar of baby food or cereal and thats all i can get him to eat. Oh and he just turned 9mo last week!
