I got Mirena put in 8 weeks after my daughter was born- it has been over a month now and i am still spotting. i went to the doctor to get an U/S done to make sure everything was placed right- the nurse even checked my ovaries to make sure nothing else was wrong- all seemed fine- my insurance had actually expired so i wasnt able to see the doctor- has anyone had this problem? or know of someone with a similar situation- just want to make sure before i go back and spend LOTS of unnecessary money. i do feel fine- sex doesnt hurt- just been spotting for 5weeks straight.

A GF of mine has one and it took a year for the spotting to stop altogether, she had bad headaches and anxiety with hers and wanted to get it taken out but they advised her against it. Apparently it should be like a jelly kinda mucus thing rather than a bleed, my advice is monitor it for 3 months keep a calendar handy, and see how it goes along, everybody is different.

It's completely normal, I had spotting with my first one for a couple months and I'm currently going through it again! My dr warned me ahead of time so I would be prepared but it's so worth it once you get past this phase. Stick it out and don't waste the money it's normal.

I had my Mirena for 5 years after our last daughter. It was great until the end. I developed gallbladder disease (which some believe is linked to Mirena), and deveoped mastitis twice in the past year (not nursing or pregnant). After the mammagram showed the pain and dark brown drainage was 'normal' hormonal reaction, I decided to get it out and find out was the cause of my hormones and what was the Mirena's fault. two days post Mirena, and the breast pain has stopped completely. Coincidence? I'm sure it is just a coincidnetal as the terrible headache that started two minutes after removal and is just now easing up.

I spotted for about 2 months after getting the Mirena inserted. I thiught that it would never end.I knew that it was not my menstral cycle yet because I was only breastfeeding. My Dr. said that it was perfectly normal that it was just the Mirena making the uterine lining thinner.

I have medical mutual and it covered my Mirena 100%. Also, I've had it for 3 months & I'm still spotting. :( If it doesn't go away by my checkup in August, I'll probably get an ultrasound. I should also add that my baby was actually born January 31st. She was due in March, so I figured it would be better to "compare/contrast" with March babies.

I got my Mirena about a month ago at exactly 8 weeks PP and have been spotting off and on constantly. My midwife told me that can last up to 6 months.

I had mine put in 11 weeks ago on april 13th. I had some cramping and heavy bleeding after. on May 8th the cramping was so bad i went to the ER. then i continued to spot for about 9 weeks. I had what i think was my period about 5 days after having it put in then again 28 days later. Now having it again about 32 days later. Hoping it will stop all together soon.

I had the mirena put in 5 weeks ago as well and still am spotting too. It was heavy bleeding in the beginning and now just spotting and I go in for a check up next week so I am hoping everything is ok. I have a question, can anyone feel it at all? Sometimes if I sit a certain way I think I can feel it? I guess I will find out if everything is ok next week though.

I had the merena after my daughter (4) and spotted for 6 months! It never stopped so I had it removed. Several of my friends that had it ended up saying the same thing but they kept it in and it stopped beween 6 and 8 months. Once theirs stopped they had very light to no periods. Now I have the essure after my son (14 weeks).

I'll be getting mine soon, I'm just waiting for my menstrual cycle but I'd like to get it sooner. Did everyone have to wait for there menstrual cycle? Mine cost $150, which I thought was a lot but I guess it's less than buying pills monthly.

im thinking everyone is effected differently- i had BAD bleeding for awhile and BAD cramping- then the cramping went away and the bleeding has lightened up too but im going on week 6 and still bleeding a bit. Also my milk wasnt effected AT ALL- but for anyone with this issue i recommend Fenugreek- taking 6-12 a day- not bad for you or baby just increases your supply- only side-effect was my milk smelling like maple syrup! lol

When I had mine place the last time, I spotted for a couple of weeks and then had fairly regular periods for about 3 months. Then all was well. No more periods and only an occasional spotting.

I had like a light period that laster for almost 2 1/2 weeks. No pains, just pain in butt! Finally stopped, but breastfeeding. MD said I shouldn't restart a regular period due to it, but noticed it effected milk supply or could be due to going back to work and missing feeding. Fourth child, and no issues before. Mirena only thing different.

Titshaina, I didn't experience any pain with either of mine, I would call your dr. Good luck.

I work for the fed gov, and also have really good insurance (every thing else was covered completely). That's why I was doubly shocked. Definately calling them today! Thanks.

Sheila, I have yet to get a bill but I carry health INS through my husband and he's a police officer so he has really good insurance. If it changes I'll let you know.

I ended up having my first period after mirena lasting for 2 1/2 weeks! A week and a half later I got my regular period, again. Talk about frustrating. My dr told me that weird things (spotting, bleeding, etc.) can continue for the first few months and then it should settle down a bit, and hopefully my periods will stop. I am hoping and praying, this post pregnancy has been CRAZY. My question to you guys is how much of the Mirena did your insurances cover. I was shocked at the bill I got (about $400 that insurance didn't cover.) I guess if I divide it out over 12 mos for 5 years it's still cheaper than the pill, but it just doesn't seem right to me. Maybe I'll call my insurance tomorrow anyways....
