My son is 2 1/2 and wears undies all day and has been peeing on the potty great for about 2 months now. The only problem is he refuses to poop on the potty, he has pooped a few times in the beginning but not just screams and will hold it till he is able to hide in his closet to poop in his undies. Dont know how to get him comfortable with pooping on the potty, any suggestions??

Just keep talking about it. Believe it or not..this is so normal. When he poops in his pants take him to the bathroom and let him see you dumping the poop into the potty. Explain that mommy and daddy use the potty for poop and that's where poop goes. It may take another 6 months of him seeing it..but he WILL do it when he's ready. I promise he won't be pooping in the closet when he's in college.

Happy to say that my son does poop on the potty all on his own now! I tried all kinds of techniques to encourage him to poop on the potty and honestly none really worked for us, eventually he decided to do it when he wanted to and hasnt had any accidents for a few months now! Basically i learned they will do it when they are ready and want to, thanks everyone for the tips.

Jessica, did you find a solution to the pooping on the potty problem? we've gotten my son where he's stand peeing, he still doesn't go on his own but i take him in & he goes, but he still won't attempt to poo in potty. i've been keeping him in undies bc i couldn't get him to pee while he was in pull-ups but night time seems to be the issue with pooping.

My son was the same he has been trained since last year nov when he was 2 1/2 but refused to poop on the toilet till march when we went on holiday and his dad took over that problem. he bit scared of daddy so it only took 3 days and since then he asks everyday twice a day to " mommy bum bum" then I know he wants to go. Never used a potty always the toilet and he always stood and peed never sat.

My son hates it when we're in the bathroom with him when he poops. Maybe if you tell him that you'll leave him alone and he can just call you when he's done, he'll do it. We also keep encouraging my son to poop when he's been tooting more often. That's a sure sign he's got more business on the way, so if he's going pee, we ask if he needs to do #2 as well. If he says yes, he'll either tell us to get out or we'll ask if he wants us to leave.

Early on, I would hold his knees to "help him" go. I would also let him "help me" in the bathroom every now and again. We both like our privacy though. ;)

my son did not want to make a poo in the potty. we got him a seat for the toilet and distracted him a bit while he was sitting - let him read a book or chat to him. he got the idea eventually and now we have to leave the bathroom for him to poo in peace :-)

What I did with my daughter is everytime she pooped her self I would tell her when she has to poop to do it in the potty and I would take her in the bathroo
And put the poop in the potty and show her then had her set on the potty for 5 min then wipe and flush. It took some time bur she does it by her self now

I've heard from other moms that pooping on the potty can be a hard thing for little kids to learn. Don't force him to do it, but just keep suggesting and offering the potty when you can see he's pooping. Of course enthusiasm about pooping in the potty and lots of talking about it helps. If you haven't already lost your privacy in the bathroom and can be an example for going #2 in the potty that may help as well. The things you have to do as a parent - LOL! Rewards don't hurt either! I have a 2.5 yr old daughter who is just starting to pee on the potty. She mostly runs to her room to poop in her diaper by herself and doesn't want anyone to be nearby when she's doing it. Still I keep suggesting that she use the potty when she poops and now she's pooped in the potty 3 times. Everyone in the house jumps up and down and hugs her and you'd think she'd won the Nobel prize with all the praise we give her! Then she wants to show off her accomplishment - the poop (in the potty - of course!) to the dog and cat and the grandparents (who live w/ use)!! I think it's working because she told me that she wants to poop in the potty again. Good luck on this adventure!

My son enjoys being a big boy and using the potty, from the begging he always used the big toilet and he has a thomas the train little seat to use on the toilet but still will not sit on it. He does not sit down to pee he stands up, so i dont know if he is just scared of sitting on the potty. Thank you all for some your help.

you should buy him a little seat for the toilet thats wat i did for my daughter because she refused to use the potty and now she uses it when she feels like it, she climbs onto the toilet herself and goes no problem

I am working with my son to use the potty at all so I am not sure if I can be of much help...but when my son does go on the potty he gets a SMALL candy treat. He gets so excited about it he runs back and tries to go again right away :) Then he gets busy playing and forgets all about going potty or just straight out refuses to sit on the potty. Most of the time my son runs bare from the hips down. When he needs to go potty he normally will bring me a diaper and demand that I put it on him. He has only pooped on the potty once
