Weaning from the breast

Hi there,

I am still BFing even though I am back at work and my daughter is now 10 months. She'll take a sippy cup, but never took to the bottle! I want to start weaning her by 10 months or so to prep her for daycare (my husband is home with her now), but am not really sure how to start...she really loves nursing, and I am hopeful she will just start to lose interest as she is becoming more active, but she's pretty stubborn, so that's probably wishful thinking.

Anyone have any advice that's worked? We have tried homo milk already and she's not into it yet and she WILL NOT take ANY formula!

Hi Dawn,

I only just recently weaned my 7.5 month son Zac and my golly was he a little bugger. Hehehe. He wouldn't take to any bottles, formula and just kept going for the booby. Then one day while shopping i saw that Tommee Tippee had a range called closer to nature, and well basically the teat is designed to imitate the breast. They r a little dearer then the usual but i highly recommend. Zac used to love to nurse so much so he would use my breast as a comfort. I use Karicare gold formula and it took him a little while to get used to it though. There were times when he wouldn't take the bottle from me cos he just wanted the breast, so when that happened daddy took over the feed and i would leave the room so Zac would not get distracted by me.

I started by replacing 1 breastfeed with the bottle a week. By the time he was on 2 Bottle feeds a day he no longer seemed interested in the booby. He is now strictly bottle fed. :)
