60% effaced, 2 cm dialated!

[deleted account] ( 9 moms have responded )

I had a doctor's appointment today and was checked for the first time. She said I am 60% effaced and 2 cm dialated. I start week 37 tomorrow. I was prepared for the thinning, but I was not expecting the dialation. Even my doctor seemed a little suprised. She does not expect me to make it to my due date (May 9th). I really don't want to have the baby before April 30th (when my mom gets here), but if I go now they're not going to stop it. I'm so excited, but I feel like I have a million things I want to get done before the baby comes. Just wondering if anyone is going through the same thing.

At my 36 week I was 1 cm dialated and not effaced, and the last time she'll check me will be this week at 38 weeks, then it will just be a waiting game. She asked if I wanted to be checked last time, but I declined. I figure it will happen when it happens, and as many contractions and pains as I've had, and I think he's dropped, I think it will be soon. Her main concern with me is making sure I continue to dialate some because I'll be induced May 6th or around if I don't have the baby before then. Good luck!!

With my first, I was 2 cm dilated and 90 % effaced for 4 weeks. I ended up being induced. At my 36 week + 2 day appt. (this time) I was 3 cm and 75 % effaced. The doctor says she doesn't think I'll make it to my due date. I'm not holding my breath as I learned last time that it could take weeks, even if your body starts to prepare ahead of time. Trust me, don't rush yourself. Once they come out, there is no putting them back. Good luck and just enjoy the kicks while they are peaceful and quiet.

I think I lost my mucous plug this morning. I know that doesn't mean it could be today or tomorrow, but I'm hoping the baby waits just 12 more days...we'll see :)

I'm 37 weeks, 3 cm dilated, 50% effaced and it seems like its taking forever! This is my second baby, my first was a beautiful girl, Alaina. I had already gone by now with her so I feel so frustrated that this is taking so long. That and I get a little nervous because I live an hour + away from the hospital and always worry that I won't make it there.

I'm right there with ya! I'm due May 9th too, but they probably won't let me go past the 2nd, being a Gestational Diabetic. They haven't checked me yet, because my midwife said she didn't want to add to my misery (Thank you!). I want to do a lot of cleaning/organizing, but I can't even lean over to get clothes out of the dryer. LOL

Yeah, I think I'm the only pregnant woman that doesn't want the baby to come right away. I'm just starting week 37 and I feel like the longer the baby stays in the better off he or she will be. I also want my mom to be here and she's not flying in until the 30th. So I'm kind of hoping that the baby waits a little while!

Yay! Isn't it great to find out that your body is finally getting ready for your baby!? And that you won't be pregnant forever? When I was pregnant with my son I walked around dilated (2-3cm) for at least 3 weeks (thinking at any moment he was just going to pop out!:) It was so frustrating... BUT, I only had a 10 hour labor and I think that's because my body was getting ready for weeks. Maybe you'll go into labor as soon as your mom gets here and it will be quick and easy. Good luck to you!

That's great - but know that you can be dilated for several weeks with nothing really happening. Try not to get your hopes up that you'll come early...you're just as likely to go past your due date, too.

I'm not getting any cervical checks this time around...knowing where you are doens't make labor happen any sooner or later than it would have happened if you hadn't known. And women can be dilated for weeks or go from 3-10 in a hour....just depends.

Trust Birth! Your body knows what to do. It'll happen when it happens and no one has been pregnant forever ;-)
