Anyone have the secret to getting pregnant?

[deleted account] ( 19 moms have responded )

We've been trying to get pregnant again, since my daughter was 6 months old. It's been 5 months & it hasn't happened yet! We are so frustrated! We have more sex than either of us want to...LOL I've even tried this vitamin pill I found called "FertilAid". We are an older couple & want tons of kids (Lord willing). I'm 32 & my husband is 44. Anyone have a secret to getting pregnant?? ♥

I *highly* recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. I completely credit it with our success getting pregnant (used the info in the book AND took over the counter ovulation tests to be sure the timing was right).

This is info EVERY woman should know about her body, whether trying to achieve pregnancy or avoid it. I found it SO empowering to read this book.

But I will second that comment that if you are nursing that changes the game entirely. Kellymom is a great website with all kinds of info regarding nursing and parenting. Here is a link to the page(s) regarding nursing and fertility, if that is an issue for you:

Good luck! And don't worry about being an "older couple" - 32 isn't old! ;-)

I agree - Taking Charge of Your Fertility is very helpful and informative.

Also, keep in mind sperm count is better when you have sex every-other day, not every day. And since sperm lives in your system for 2-5 days, you don't have to have sex the day you ovulate.

WRT breastfeeding - it is possible to get pregnant while still nursing. My son was 16 months old and still nursing when I got pregnant. I had been trying for about 6 months at that point. He also continued to nurse throughout the pregnancy and is tandem nursing now with my 10 month old. I think the average spacing between kids when nursing is 2 years (my sons are 26 months apart).

I agree with the rest of the mom's but you can also try to speed things up by taking prenatal vitamins. But it will happen when it's ready to happen don't try to force it just have fun and don't worry your preggers or not. Good Luck!!

im young, fit and healthy with no fertility problems but it still took me 7 or 8 months of tryin before i fell pregnant with my daughter.

im pregnant again with another girl due 28th may and i fell pregnant 1st try with her!!

i didnt do anything different to when i tried with my 1st.... your body will work how it wants to work and most doctors wont see it as a problem unless you have tried for 12months + without sucsess.

Figure out when in your cycle you're ovulating and try like mad around that time every month.

It took my husband & I 5 months to fall pregnant with our first baby. We decided to "stop trying" then it happened. My doctor also told me that it can also help if you orgasam together as it pulls the sperm further up into the womans uterus ; )

My husband is a Personal Trainer and he said eating gluten free also helps. Gluten is no good for our body

Are you live a healthy life and do a certain amount of exercise. I think pressure doesn't really help much either :/ It'll happen when the time is right. Doesn't sound promising but that's how it works doesn't it? Wouldn't take any pills! Have you been to the doc to check when your fertile days are?

before i got prego my doc told me to start on prenatal vitamins and folic acid also u should have sex the 14th through 16th day after the 1st day of ur period after u do elevate ur butt on a pillow for about 15min to give the sperm time to travel up so u dont pee them out it worked for me both times my 1st was born may 9 09 and due with our 2nd lil girl june 30th good luck

Are you breastfeeding? That can have an effect on your fertility, so you may want to wait until you're done nursing before you start worrying that there's an issue or anything. Otherwise, keep in mind that there's only a 25% chance of conceiving any given month under perfect circumstances (i.e., both partners are in ideal health, within ideal age range for reproduction, intercourse happens exactly when it should, etc.). Unless you have a medical problem that may contribute to a fertility issue, most doctors will advise that you just keep trying for a few more months.

relax...literally. the more stressed and focused you are on it, it will take longer. we tried for our 2nd, now 9 months old, stopped trying due to frustration and got pregnant that month. or the ovulation predictor kits, target brand works just as well as the brand name

Take your temperature it will get higher closer to your "getting pregnant" stage... it worked for us...Good luck and maybe just go away for a weekend without any reason and be stress free ...

Totally agree. with Caroline. I have a few friends that were doing the same thing "trying" to get pregnant. They stopped having sex for a week or so and then when they went back to having sex they just had sex didnt worry about whether or not they were preggo. and eventually it just happened. Like Caroline said it will happen where its ready!! Good Luck

I agree with Caroline. I'm sure you already know this, but just keep an eye on your cycle and make sure you're having sex during your most fertile time of the month. Good luck!
