I started giving my daughter finger foods when she turned 7 months old. I may have started too early, but she has done great so far. She's had puffs, cheerios, biter biscuits, peas, soft carrot triangles, an apple slice (for sucking on), and a carrot (also for sucking on). I'll add though, she does not eat well from a spoon so the only table foods she is really eating is what she picks up herself and puts in her mouth.

I've been giving my 7 month old finger food for about a month. He's big so i started weaning at 4.5 months. As a second child he wants what his brother is having. That said go with whats comfortable with you. I read a bit of a book called infant lead weaning which has made me much more confident with trusting your baby with more solid food. Arthur east soft boiled veg - toast and marmite - and rich tea biscuits are his fav. He sometimes 'gips' but has not choked. Good luck

i let chloe have finger food, only hard biscuits like milk arrowroots, she just gnaws and sucks till its soft then eats it or makes a mess. i can't see any harm in that

Lindsey yes the choking can be so scary. THe yogurt melts just seem to big for now so breaking in half works well. I have bought the puffs but haven't tried yet. I will start to try them and see how he does. I will do the pear chunks first though. *smiles*

I give my son the puffs and he does great on them. I gave him the yogurt melts and he choked, which was very, very scary. Breaking them in half is a better idea to prevent choking. I also give him chunks of sweet potato that I cook and have started giving him cooked pear chunks too. It is definitely scary though!

I have started to Give my 7 1/2 month old yogurt melts. I break them into halves for now and he seems to be doing fine with them. I don't give him the puffs or teething biscuits yet. I am making his food chunkier now too so he can practice mashing the food with his gums. Do you give him chunky foods yet like bananas and so on to see how he mashes it? I know it is so scary to know when they are ready for bigger foods isn't it?
