A nurse told me to take the stopper out, and only put a small amount of water in it, and show her how to do it. Keep trying that and she'll get the hang of it. My daughter drinks, when I offer it, and I take it away when she's done, so she can't play with it. It's only when she's drinking it, that it will be in front of her. I offer it to her after she eats, and throughout the day. I say "water", so she will get the hang of the word too, so she will be able to tell me she wants it.

My son is 9 months. I tried the sippy at 6 months with the hard top and he couldnt figure it out. I bought the silicone one and since it is like the bottle he took to it but still wasnt getting the concept of tipping the cup. A few days ago and got it out again and he took right too it. I guess it just has to be the right time. Good luck!!

Our son is the same as most of the stories. After trying about 6 different sippee cups in our cupboard, we are still with the straw ones. He just doesnt get the concept that he has to tilt the cup to get the liquid out, well my husband says he understands but hes just being lazy cause he has done it...lol We are using the Gerber Graduates sippee cup, so it has the long straw in it, so he can do it all on his own, and he can drop it all he wants and it still hasnt leaked yet. I figure once he useds that more we will slowly transfer him to a sippee cup. He does great with a reg cup and if we help him...but if hes doing it all on his own, his shirt is soaked and i am cleaning the floor, lol.

Our daughter would not drink from a sippy cup, but does a cup and straw great. We do juice or water. I learned to water down the juice for her and she likes it a lot better.

my son uses a sippy cup through most of the day, he still gets a bottle 3 times a day but we tried a few different cups before we found on he could use with no problem. One suggestion: don't buy the soft top cups, buy the hard plastic, it will work their teeth and you won't have to worry about the silicone breaking from chewing.

My daughter loves her sippy cup. She drinks out of it all the time. I only put juice in it but I didnt have a problem with her taking it.

My son also does the same thing, Chews the tip and plays with it. Sometimes he'll suck on it and get some water out but then he starts to choke and cough because he swallow it correctly. I've tried giving him a cup with a straw and he does pretty good with that. I've also tried a water bottle and he also does well with that. Good luck.

My son didnt take well to the sippy cup. He didnt understand the concept of tipping it back to get the drink inside. So we tried the straw kind and he loves it. they make kinds with no spill straws so he doesnt make a mess. now i fill it with water or watered down apple juice and put it on the floor, He will come take a couple drinks as he needs while playing.

My daughter drinks from the sippy a little bit but she mostly just chews on it too. The Dr. suggested a sippy with a straw. She does much better with that but still chews on the straw a lot.

I tried my daughter on a sippy cup for about a month, and she put up a lot of resistance. Sometimes she would only drink out of it once, and then be done with it. But 2 days ago I introduced it to her again, and that's all she's been drinking out of ever since. No bottles. I cut my son off of his bottle cold turkey when he was 14 months old. I think every baby is different. Have you tried different kinds of sippy cups? Maybe she just doesn't like the particular one.

I've mostly given up on sippy cups and instead feed Talia water straight from a regular cup. They get the hang of it pretty quick :)
