hi just wondering what all the other 6 month old bubs weigh now?

my son is 6 months old now and he only weighs 5.32kgs (11lb 12oz) and he has only gained 1.9kgs (4lb 3oz) since birth. i know this may seem like maybe im not doing something right and i feel like it at times but he is having 3 solid feeds and 6x240ml bottles a day as well as a banana and steamed carrots in between his feeds but for some reason he just wont gain weight :(

My daughter was 9 lbs .1 oz when she was born & at her 6 month checkup she was 22.3 lbs & 27 1/2 inches. She is breastfed straight from the tap & I just started her on baby food that I make for her at home on her 6th month birthday. Never gave her baby cereal at all.

Sounds like he's got a fast metabolism! My Julia was born at 9.15 lbs., 21 inches and at 6 months is already 22.4 lbs., 26 inches. I have big kids, though-- her brother was 30 lbs. and 28 inches at 6 months. Every baby is different, he'll go through a growth spurt.

wow he is eating / drinking alot more than my little man. Mine weighs 8.3kgs but but only has 150-180 per feed (and occassionally spews). He has 3 meals as well (2 cube size roughly each feed). They say when you baby is more active moves around alot they burn more fat. My little guy isn't really mobile yet.

My son was 8lbs 13oz at birth and was 20lbs at 6 months. He's breastfed and has two solids meals per day (breakfast and evening meal). Glad to see some bigger babies as I always worry mine is too big (he's seriously chunky... but my first baby was long and skinny).

As a rule of thumb, he should really have doubled his birth weight by 6 months. Most babies double by about 4 months. Don't know if your doctor or health visitor has said anything? On the other hand, if he's happy and developing normally he could just be small but healthy! They're all soooo different. Strange though as it sounds like he eats a LOT more than my huge baby does :|

My daughter was born on May 9 and is now almost 7 months old. We took her to the pediatrician last week and she weighed 21 lbs and was 27 1/2 inches tall. She is a big girl now and was average size at birth weighing 7 lbs 3 oz. I think that all babies develop and grow at their own pace. Maybe he has a really good metabolism. The kind that all of us women dream of =). My brother was tiny like that and he is fine today. I don't think it is anything to worry about but talk to your pediatrician anyway.

[deleted account]

My boy was 4lb 14 ounces at birth (full term) and weighed 17lb. even at his 6 month check up about a month ago.

edit to add-My older son was a lot like that and still is at almost 5, he weighs 32lb and is 42 inches tall so he's a skinny boy and he never stop eating. No worries all babies do there own thing.

My daughter was 6wks early weighing 6lbs 4 oz and 19.3 in long. At her 6 month check up she weighed 15lbs 14 oz and 25 3/4in long. She has 4-4oz bottles of breast milk, 2-3 solid meals (oatmeal cereal, a fruit and a veggie) which i coinside with bottles. She has 1 bottle of formula at bed time(i'm hoping it helps her sleep better). I would bring it up with your pediatrition. I have a friend whose daughter was full term and weighed only 5lbs4oz and only weighed 11lbs at her first birthday, 16lbs when she was 2. They never could find anything wrong with why she wouldn't gain weight. She did have colic and cerebral palsey(which was a very light case and youwould never even know it now). Some babies just grow slow. Shes now 8 and you couldnt tell she was so tiny for such a long time. Good luck!

My daughter weighed 6 lbs 10 oz at birth. She'll be 7 months in four days and weights about 17 lbs.

In the first month she barely gained a pound and my pediatrician told me to supplement but I refused. I exclusively breastfed till 5 months, when I started giving her rice cereals and pureed fruits and veggies (and continue to breastfeed) She's a little chubby chub now : )

My daughter was born on May 8th. She was 8lbs 6 oz. 21 inches long. At her 6 month appt, she was 18 lbs 0.5 oz and 28 1/8 inches long. I took her in last week for an ear infection and they weighed her. At 6 1/2 months, she was 18lbs 10.5oz! She is breast fed, gets one formula bottle per day and breakfast of cereal and fruit and dinner of veggies. No meats yet. They give her tummy troubles.

Theresa, I am glad to see another big boy on here! My son was 8lbs 8oz at birth and today is off the charts at 24lbs and 31 inches long. He's huge! The doc said he is the size of a typical 1 year old and he is about to go into 18 months clothing. His feeding schedule looks similar to your son's except I haven't started him on meats yet.

My daughter weighed in at 7lbs 15 ounces at birth ... at her first needles she only gained 4ounces... that is when i decided to stop nursing. she is my third child and ive nver had a problem with my children gaining until her. she drained me competely but by her next needles(4 months) she was gaining nicely. the typical rule of thumb to have your childs birth wieght doubled by 6 months to have them in the 50th percentile... my daughter was in the 4th percentile at 2 months gained up to 12th percentileat 4 months and was righ in the 50th percentile at 6 month needles (16.1 lbs). All babies are different. If he is going routinely to dr. apts and the dr. doesnt have concern i wouldnt worry to much. is he fatigue?? cranky?? if he seems to sleepy (more then 14 hours sleep in 24 hours) he probably needs a little more to eat.

have you seen your doctor? I think it's something you should consider. If the doctor is monitoring it and doesn't seem concerned, perhaps seek a second opinion. Sounds like you're not doing anything wrong, perhaps there is an underlying medical issue your doctor should investigate.
He's eating a solid amount, is he active and meeting the necessary milestones? That's something else to consider. Is he happy, sleeping, etc? All great measures of whether he's thriving...

My six month old weights 14lbs and 12 oz and was 27 inches long. Was 7.1lbs and 20 inches long at birth. Everyone always tells me he is so skinny and underweight, so I asked my doctor and he said as long as he is eating and bowl movements and peeing are normal, then he is fine. He told me he was a healthy strong boy not to worry about his weight.

I would ask your doctor why baby isn't gainig weight. Also remember that babies grow at different rates. Your baby could just be on the small side.
