Hello ladies! My fiance and I are looking at available sea duty orders now. He is an ET2, up for ET1, in the Navy. At this time it looks like either Coronado, CA or Virginia Beach. We have a son that will be 2 when we move. I am looking for the pros and cons of either area, schools too. Thank you to all those who respond.

I am in VA now. You might want to consider
1) where is your family from? You might want your son to get to know them
2) do you like humidity? Its not terrible on the beach, but it can get rough (I grew up in SC so its nothing to me)
3) Expense. In VA Beach, you will get hit with all the tourist trap prices of things
There is always something to do in VA. I love it here. We came here from TX and it seems like there is always something to do and not enough time to do it. Good luck on your decision

My husband is a Marine and we're stationed at Camp Pendleton just north of Coronado. You would LOVE southern California!!!!!! :D

CA has a ton of playgroups, ton of parks, and a lot of indoor play area for kids. Coronado is where my husband is stationed. I personally love it, but it is costly out here, but if you go to meetup.com you can easily join the san diego military mom's group and there is meetings almost everyday.

The only reason I left San Diego was because of falling in love with my man...otherwise I would never ever leave. It's so awesome and I miss it so much.

I didn't like Virginia Beach at first but now that my kids are 5 and almost 4, its been a fabulous place for them to grow. There is so much to take them to do. We did an art class at the Norfolk botanical gardens, have memberships to the Virginia Aquarium and Virginia Zoo which are both awesome and its a short drive to any of the beaches.

Coronado is a very nice and upscale area. A great place to raise children. I am a native San Diegan. Trust me, the beach and the whole area is a beautiful and a great place to raise children. It's a very quiet and low key area. There are plenty of activities because, hello, this is southern california :O). If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

I'm partial to Va Beach just because I grew up there, and I don't know much about Coronado. There is tons to do in the Hampton Roads area. I think it's a family friendly area personally.

I say California!! I'm just saying this because I've lived on the east coast my entire life, except the last 2 years, and the west coast has much better weather!! =) I'm currently living in Hawaii, but miss having 4 seasons, but definitely do not miss the humidity of the east coast!! Good luck!!

I have not been to CA, but our next orders are San Deigo. We are in Norfolk Va now and I will tell you stay in the suburbs. The City schools around here can be rough. Chesapeake and some areas of VA Beach are nice. There are alot of family oriented things to do here and I will miss it. I would take actual tours of the schools before you purchase a home, Good luck
