if you have kids, i have heard of people making them into school text book covers. you could make a laptop bag or make up bag. a girl i knew in ne made purses and lined with bright fabric.

the easiest thing to make is pillows. use the brown t-shirt as the 1st layer around any throw pillow. then use the acu shirt/pant pockets as embelishments. the back of the shirts work great as tote bags. then use sleeves/legs for handles. already mentioned, but quilts are a great way to use extras. squares from all the different uniforms (another great use for pockets) mixed with patriotic fabrics in ur service. please post pics if you do any!

I have a few sets of old BDU's and ACU's that I have saved and I use the others sometimes to patch up blankets and stuff, I have a diaper bag and purse made from them. You can use them for so many things and it gives your stuff a more personal and sentimental touch. I hate giving them away because they have been such a big part of our lives...I know it sounds silly but that's how I am!

that is really cool! i wish i was that crafty with fabric. i only know how to stitch a hole and simple things like that. but someone here just mentioned jeans and i thought it would be pretty cool to make decorative patches for jeans out of the uniform. i am going to see if my husband has any old uniforms i can play around with!

I cut different sizes of squares out of the fabric of my husband's and my old uniforms, took different sizes of blue jeans (my mom has a closet full of old jeans) and make quilts. I back them with some flannel. So far I have only made 2 for my nephews, one BDU and one DCU, but they love them~!

Glad to know there are others out there recycling the old uniforms. I have a vintage 50's dress pattern I am going to sew with his old ACUs. I will likely just wear it around the house or to play with the children. A quilt is also a great idea. The fabric dyes really well,too.
The diaper bag I saw was at Fort Lewis,at the Madigan hospital. It was really nice.
I just hate to toss the old fabric when it can still be used.

My Mom sent my hubby's top into her and she made it into a diaper bag for my daughter. She makes all kinds of stuff too.

i am also in Ft. Lewis and i have seen purses and diaper bags, i also sent an ACU top to my mother to make into a dress for my daughter, can't wait till its finished, she hasn't had much time to do it lately lol. i like the teddy bear idea too, it would be good for deployments!

I am up in WA at Ft. Lewis and we have a couple of ladies who sew them into purses, diaper bags, even teddy bears! They take the name tags and ranks and include them on the purses and diaper bags. I've heard rumors that they will make a purse for free if you are a gold star wife. Good luck!

I have seen on Myspace people making them into purses,Diaper bags,baby blankets key chains so on and so forth they are pretty cool looking actually....Just go to Myspace or even google Military Uniform Purses and they use ALL the armed forces uniforms cause i believe they all have different patterns now right? But I think they look groovy...lol

don't know how it would work,but pillows, seat cushions. If he had BDUs, or red white and blue, a patch blanket? I would only be able to make cutt off shorts, so good luck.

I dont know where youre from but here in Colorado Springs there is a huge military presence with Ft Carson, Peterson AFB, Schreiver AFB and the AF Academy. I have seen a few women, even just with craigslist posting but also with websites, that make them into diaper bags, purses, some customize t-shirts cutting hearts, rattles, and such out of the fabric and sewing it onto a plain t-shirt witha cute saying or a family picture. You could also quilt it into a blanket.

OMG i am so into making clothes but from my husband uniform thats a NO NO NO BIG everyone has them, the only time i would make anything from my husband uniform would be for my kid but never for me
