How do I get my kids to give up their sippy cups of milk before bed?

I'm back now, and we have done the cold turkey thing for over a week now. Both my 3 yr old and 2 yr old have done fine, after a few nights of asking they don't worry about it anymore! Now if only that meant the 3 yr old would quit wetting at night...another day I guess.

I let them have water in bed, but nothing else (partly for their teeth, partly to prevent messes). My 3 yr old still wears a diaper to bed, so I am working on getting her off the cup at bedtime, but she has been sick so I haven't made it an issue yet...we'll just go cold turkey when we do. I'm guessing a week and she'll be over it.

It was quite easy for me. she kept chewing her sippy cup nipple up and i kept fussing at her to pick it up so it wouldnt drip and i guess she finally got fed up with me and at 18 monts old she threw it in the garbage and there was no fuss again. try to start explaing after a certatin time of the evening after dinner that there will be no more drink. it will be fussy for a few nights but you have to stay strong and stay with it.

I also used the water technique. Once they were off the bottle, they were allowed a sippy cup with milk for a few months. Then we just started using water instead of milk and eventually they didn't need anything. As they got older I also made the rule no drinks after we brush our teeth.Well hope this helps, good luck.

I ended up just saying they could have water or nothing. Yes, it was a fight at first, yes it was worth it. No more soaking wet diapers (and sheets), and no more night-time accidents with my oldest. By offering water instead, they could still have something even though they didn't like it as much.
