I have a 2, 4, and 6 year old and I have not been on a date with my husband in, well I can't remember when. I recently moved to a new town and want to know how much I should pay a babysitter, I have a 16 year old in mind. Also should I offer this to her and a friend to help her or her alone? I would only be going to dinner locally, so it would be for maybe 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

I have a 2 & 3 year old and I pay $10 an hour if they are awake and $8 if they are asleep. I hope you get to go on a "date" soon!! :)

I understand, I know how important it is to get out and have some alone time.  I used to go to Wal Mart at 8:00pm Friday night and walk every aisle till about 2:00am. I was in a safe town to do this though. My husband has a different job now and he is home more, so I don't have to get out late anymore. We will hopefully find someone in our church to watch the kids. The 16 year old is my husband's boss' daughter and they are very respectfull people.

I started to use a girl who is only 12 (her parent(s) are just a few houses down and we stay local). Paying a 12 year old vs. 16 might be different. Her mom didn't want me to pay her too much but I probably still pay more than her mom was thinking. I have 3 boys ages 8, 6, & 4. I pay her $6 an hour ($2 per kid). It's still pretty good for me because if I take them to a child care place we have here it's $6 per child per hour for a minimum of 2 hours. I've heard the going rate for sitters for hire is about $10 an hour if you use a service. So perhaps somewhere in between the two. I personally like the younger age because she comes over with tons of games for the kids and she can still play/relate on a younger level. I worry about 16 because at that age when I babysat I talked on the phone the majority of the time with friends or a boyfriend. As far as hiring two for same or double I don't know.
