Why does my 18 month old wake up happy in the mornings, but screaming after naps?

My daughter is a great sleeper - sleeps from about 8:30-9PM until about 7:30-8AM. She wakes up happy as can be. Then, around 1:30PM I lay her down for a nap. She goes down with no complaint, and usually sleeps until between 4 and 4:30PM, but she wakes up hysterical crying and needs about 20 minutes of cuddling before she's back to her chipper self. She sleeps and naps in the same place - her crib, in her room... I just don't understand why she's so perky in the morning, and just so sad and clingy after naps. Anyone else going through this? Any suggestions to help her wake up happier at nap time?

My two year old has been doing this off and on for a while as well. Have often wondered the same thing. Lots of hugs and kisses when he does get up though. I chalk it up to a bad dream, but honestly have no clue. My first born never did this..hopefully my youngest won't either. Good luck!

I'm the same as Jeannine...no advice, but sympathy. My 22 month old sleeps almost the exact same schedule as your daughter and often wakes up from his nap sad, crying, sometimes screaming. At this point in his life he's so active and busy and rarely snuggles that guiltily I enjoy holding his big, heavy, cuddly self for a while. ;) Best to you!

My 2 younger children did the same thing, they didn't scream, but woke up crying and really needed to adjust and be held...mornings, happy, up, and playing. I guess it's like the rare opportunity that we get a nap, it's short, so when we wake up we're out of sorts, even though we needed it, and need to be up we're in a weird "place". No advice, but sympathy.
